Another treasure from those dusty locked wardrobes

Since the changing of the Marini’s took place, Mons. Guido and His Holiness have been rattling the keys of those old long-locked storage rooms.

Thanks to Shouts in the Piazza I can show you a photo of Pope Benedict at an audience wearing a stole with the coat-of-arms of Bl. Pope Pius IX.

Given that Blessed Pope Pius IX did a lot of struggling to win religious freedom for Catholics, and given that the student meeting featured Rosary and Litany of Loreto feeds from places like Havana and Minsk in Belarus, I wonder if our current pope was invoking some intercession. :)

I love the photos! The holy father looks like he’s giving someone a big bear hug.
“Hey you over there- Yah you! HUg!”

Let’s see how far into the back of the closet they’re digging.

We’ll know when we start seeing bees on things.

I wonder if a major reason why all this grand old papal regalia is appearing, besides the fact that it is traditional and therefore awesome, is that Pope Benedict XVI is actually small enough to wear the stuff. I mean, people were shorter and slighter years ago, right? I consider myself (normal height and weight for an American woman) trying to fit into period dresses/skirts as simply impossible. When we saw St. Clare’s old clothes in Assisi, they were simply TINY! :)

I was beginning to think I was the only person who noticed the historic stole. Most Catholic blogs haven’t said anything! His Holiness switched back to his personal stole for meeting the US ambassador later that day.
