What squirrels will do for a meal

It will not come as a surprise to WDTPRSers that I hate squirrels.  They are, to my mind, cuter versions of rats.

I how they analyze ways both to attack the bird feeders and even get into the house.  A squirrel in the house is a bad thing.

So, here is a little video to show us what we are up against.

    Two words.

    Squirrel dumplings.

  2. Kradcliffe says:

That just makes me like squirrels MORE. Go, squirrels, GO!

  3. dad29 says:

Maybe you should ask for a nice Gamo airgun.

(Use the lead ammo. It’s more accurate.)

  4. Brian Sudlow says:

Andy L. beat me too it. I was recently introduced to the delights of squirrel at the dinner table, and I have to say I approve. Cooked in some red wine with a bay leaf and some tarragon. Mmmmmmmmmm!

  5. freddy says:

We used to get squirrels in the crawl-space unitl my husband put plexi-glass covers over the crawl space windows. My husband said it gave him a warm fuzzy feeling to imagine the sqirrels coming “home” one night only to bash their little noses on the new windows.

  6. Cole M. says:

I can totally sympathize with you, Fr. Z. My family kept birdfeeders and kept chasing those accursed squirrels away. I once thought about rigging the metal pole our feeders were on such that the squirrel could be given a non-lethal (but very unpleasant) shock at the push of a button, but my electrial knowledge is sadly deficient…

  7. Patrick says:

Fox urine will keep them away. Just don’t get it on your hands.

  8. Why non-lethal? I say: let them fry. Squirrels are the enemy.

  9. Thomas says:

Fox urine will keep them away. Just don’t get it on your hands.

Just go pick up a bottle from your nearest drug store?

  10. Schrenk says:

I agree with Kradcliffe. This has made me admire squirrels all the more. Smart + adorable.

  11. Derik Castillo says:

What a catholic have to do to have a reverent and dignified Mass (either in OF or EF) is more or less illustrated by this video :-)

Best WDTPRS quote ever. Fr. Z should give you a special award for being the winner of St. Blogs.

Father, you’re right. Cute RATS. BTW, they are also getting to be really aggressive. It was in the news recently here in Los Angeles that a four-year-old was in a park at a family picnic. Evidently the child was sitting there on the grass eating a cookie and the furry turd attacked him and got away with his cookie. The child needed stitches to his face and needed to undergo treatment for possible rabies. Yeah, the idea of electrified or blasted squirrel sounds pretty good to me, especially the one which attacked the child. Grrr!!

As far as the fox’s urine bit, EW!! BTW Patrick, who the heck is going to fetch the sample for that? Gross.

  14. Paul Waddington says:

See the Pastor Iuventos column in the Catholic Herald. He has installed a device with a high pitched whistle to repel squirrels and foxes from his urban parish.

  15. Alan says:

Hey Fr. Z Do you listen to quinn and Rose? they are morning show hosts and have a podcast that is really great i suggest you check it out. Rose had a problem with chipmunks and it works for squirls too from what i understand you take a 5 gallon bucket fill it half way with water put a layer of sunflower seeds ontop and a plank across the top so they can walk across they jump in and drown. these rats cause thousands of dollars worth of damage.
