Pray that he has strength and clarity of mind to resist the pressures lining up against him.
Pray that he not feel too isolated or that he ought to start making odd gestures here and there just to satisfy those who are screaming at him.

I’m glad you will say Mass for the Holy Father’s intentions. Why isn’t anyone taking the Holy Father’s own words condemning the Holocaust- at face value? Not only were the Jews victims during the Holocaust many other people were also murdered during those years. Maximillian kolbe is one Catholic that comes to my mind.
I think prayers also are needed for Bishop Fellay. It would appear that the closet sedevacantists within the SSPX are coming out into the open.

I think bishop Williamson also needs our prayers. Somehow the thicker the crowd of those shouting and demanding him to be punished the more I feel sympathy towards him. I’d even say it reminds me of something.
But in any case – we should all rally behind our Holy Father. We have a great Pope who labors hard to save this Church. Let’s pray for him!
I think the actions of the press/MSM are those of the control freak tossing around unreasoning and unreasonable statements in an attempt to gain power over someone else. In this case over the Pope, which in a way is also a pitiful attempt to gain power over God whose representative our dear Pope is.
I hope he allows the press office at the Vatican to just keep pointing to things like the u-tube videos and otherwise not allow their posturing to disturb his peace.
I gladly join you all in praying for our Pope and for bishop Williamson and also for the misguided people of the MSM.

There isn’t any sense in my diocese, certainly at the Chancery and at least my parish, that Pope Benedict XVI is under attack and needs our prayers and support.
The bishops of the Church should sound the alarm…call each Catholic to pray for the Holy Father…to declare publicly their support for the Pope.
But will they? Did they do so following the vicious anti-Pontiff attacks that accompanied the release of Summorum Pontificum?
Answers: No.
Why? Because then, as now, the vicious attacks against the Holy Father come not just from the “world”, but from within the Church.
The true feelings that the world hold for the Catholic Church and Her Pontiff have been made obvious.
Sadly, that also applies to more than a few members of the Church.
Despite a recent quote from Archbishop Sheen, that few people hate the Church, the reality is that more than a few hate the Church.
During the past 40 or so years, Rome has appeased the world constantly…has appeased non-Catholics via ecumenism and interreligious “dialogue” to the point of even altering Her Liturgy.
Ancient and tremendous prayers have been rewritten to appease non-Catholics.
As has been the case frequently, the collosal failure of Rome having “opened up to the world”…the failure of ecumenism and interreligious “dialogue” is evident.
The post-Vatican II Church is clearly in a state of collapse. The Church’s enemies from without, bold and fearless, have attacked the Pope.
Even more disturbing is that from within the Church, few bishops, priests and laymen appear to care to defend to the hilt Holy Mother Church and the Holy Father.
The Church’s enemies could easily overrun Her and Her Pope as virtually nobody, particularly within the Church, cares to rise in defense of Holy Mother Church and the Supreme Pontiff.
I will offer Mass for our good Holy Father. Everyone should pray for him every day.
It sure seems that this issue is a trial run of separating the sheep from the goats.

I think that many of us blog-readers probably feel the same way a lot of the time. We must, therefore, stand (and pray) together. We are, after all, in the best of company.

Praying for the Pope and all clergy and religious should be part of our daily routine.
I think that all people of good will, Catholic or not, recognize that his intentions were simply to reconcile this group with the Church. It was meant to be a joyous and internal affair. Instead, it has become a scandal, and as it stands now, is very exploitable for those who harbor ill will towards the Church.
Nevertheless, since God allowed this situation to happen, we must accept it and trust in His ways.
May I add someone else who needs to be prayed for?

I keep praying for the Holy Father, and after stumbling across this blog a week ago, I find it comforting to know that I am not alone in praying for the Catholic Church. I cannot help but think that there has got to be some way that all of the Catholic faithful could come together and say a Rosary for the Pope so that he may defeat his enemies both in the Church and outside of the church. Just think about 1.5 billion rosaries would do? Our Lady would surely hear us and intercede for God to help us. One can only pray. If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear it.

It is as though the entire armies of evil are gathering against The Church, even from within, as Pope Benedict XVI, attempts to undo the post-conciliar injustices against tradition. His best allies are not among the rebellious liberals and the cantankerous left wing revolutionaries of The Church who represent divisiveness and compromise but rather they reside in those who desire and are ready to stand for a true Roman Catholic restoration with Christ Our King at its Head. At Last, we have a holy father who speaks a language we may recognise and who perceives The Church in danger. He once called for courage not to run from the ravening wolves. The hour is come. The vision of St John Bosco and the Holy Father leading us into battle comes to mind. As one falls so another succeeds.

My 2 cents worth,
It is rather like an episode from the Twilight Zone. Two years ago it was the leadership of the SSPX attacking certain positions of the Holy Father and modernist Rome and the NO bishops doing their own thing–many deliberately ignoring missives from the Holy Father; turn the dial and today it is the Holy Father’s own bishops who are condemning him and attacking his position BUT NOW the former adversaries of the Holy Father, the bishops of the SSPX, are defending him and Eternal Rome. Who would have expected such a turn of events in such a short time???
It is abundantly clear to me that Satan’s attacks against the Church are on the rise, attacks from within and without. Statements like Williamsons timed just as the Holy Father is going to lift excommunications, vile attacks against the Holy Father by the media (as you pointed out in a previous post about the reference to the Hitler Youth without providing any context or talking about how that experience played a formative role in his decision to become a priest and battle evil), the recent discoveries surrounding Fr. Maciel, the events surrounding Cardinal Mahoney, the vicious attacks against the Church and the pope throughout the SSPX affair, the lies and deceptions, which while they always go on in the media (and let’s face it, Satan has had major influence over media communications for some time), and on and on. Obviously Satan is always battling the Church, but it just seems to me that his attacks are more vicious now, that he is gaining supporters, and while he will never be victorious, we need to step up our own efforts at spiritual warfare so as to help ensure he takes as few souls down with him. We need to read Ephesians. We need to pray an extra Rosary every day. We need to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Chaplet of St. Michael. We need to receive the Sacraments of the Church more and more, especially taking care not to neglect the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We need to pray, pray, pray. Especially lay Catholics need to pray the Liturgy of the Hours (I say especially since priests and religious are already bound). We need to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays. We need to make this Lent about much more than just giving up soda and fish sticks on Fridays. We need to develop and grow in and ask for the virtue of humility, against which Satan is utterly powerless. The Church needs us here and now. You priests, practice excellence in the liturgy, as this very blog exhorts. This is the time to fill up what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ. We must become more and more Christ, so that Satan can be thrust back into hell.
Thank you Fr Z for offering this mass for the Pope. I wish there signs of were massive support for him, but I think a lot of laypeople are timid and confused about the whole thing or even live in parishes where there is little support for the Pope among the clergy. I have started saying a Rosary for him every day and I wish I had done so earlier. If nothing else, perhaps this will be a wake up call to Catholics to rally to the support of the Church, both spiritually and materially.
BXVI just had a whole lot more thrown on his plate. Suddenly, integrating the SSPX into the heart of the Church looks like the easier of his two tasks vis a vis religious orders.

This is patently untrue – the SSPX have always given filial devotion to the pope. They have a right to intimate where there are inconsistencies which there are & have been. On the contrary, it is the NO bishops and priests for the main part who have feigned a false obedience behind which many have been deceitful in their pastoral negligence and divisiveness. “Humanae Vitae” provides an excellent illustration of modernist rancour & summons to lay reaction against the wishes of the holy father. These have also done everything to ensure since the 1980s the Indult Mass and its priestly societies never developed very much. There are many examples of continual rebellion and disobedience by modern Catholics against the popes of our day.

When I pray my daily Rosary, the Holy Father is always mentioned in my personal intentions.

I believe the enemies of the One True Church, both inside and outside of “The Citadel” as Fr. Malachi Martin used to phrase it, had been waiting so long for this moment to arrive. Now they see their chance and they’re hoping to make the most of it. This is because they know their time is short (refer also to the incident that precipitated Pope Leo XIII’s composition of the Prayer to St. Michael on October 13, 1884 — 33 years TO THE DAY before the Miracle of the Sun). It is also to be noted that Jacinta said that we must “Pray much for the Holy Father” for he has much to suffer.
Sadly if a “schism at the top” occurs (such as via a bogus claim that Pope Benedict has resigned, or “been removed from office” as if the Catholic Church were a liberal democracy or a multi-national corporation) it is probable only a remnant will remain loyal to the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. (Refer also to Luke 18:8 and to II Thess 2:6-7.)
Could the long awaited Consecration of Russia, in the manner specifically requested by Our Lady, be far off?
For, as it is recorded at the end of the “Second Secret of Fatima”:
“If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred; the Holy Father will have much to suffer; various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she shall be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world.”

The SSPX became a quasi-schismatic group because of their explicit rejection of papal authority, because of their disobedience to the Holy Father and disloyalty to the Church. That’s what you call filial devotion to the pope? Nice.
