I received this from a reader:
St. Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh, Co.Cork – Solemn High Mass St. Colman’s Society for Catholic Liturgy wishes to announce that Solemn High Mass in the extraordinary form will be celebrated in St. Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh, Co. Cork, at 12 noon on Easter Monday, 13 April 2009.
Tomás Luis de Victoria’s (1548-1611) Mass O quam gloriosum will be sung by the Dublin Lassus Scholars
This is very good news. Congratulations to St. Colman’s Society for organising this Mass.
The Lassus Scholars are absolutely first class. Though they’ll be exhausted after Holy Week!
If not mistaken, this will be the first Solemn High Mass in the Cork area for more than 40 years.
When I was a kid in Dublin my Dad, a carpenter and construction foreman who went to Mass every day right up to the day he died, used to take me to High Mass every year, as I recall, on Easter Monday and Whit (Pentecost) Monday, sometimes to the Dominican church, sometimes to the Franciscan church and sometimes to the Capuchin church. I didn’t appreciate it at the time. But I do now.
