Not an announcement, but a comment about announcements . . .
Whenever a new traditional Latin Mass is announced, I feel much like I did when watching Return of the King in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, when one signal fire after another was lit on the mountain tops, summoning help for the battle against Mordor. [One of the best moments in those movies (the music) and a great image.] Just absolutely thrilled and hopeful.

A Solemn High Traditional Latin Mass will be offered at the Carmelite Monastery located at 66th Ave. and Old York Road (near Broad Street) Philadelphia on Thursday, July 16th , the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, at 7:30 PM. The solemn Missa Cantata will be celebrated by Father Kevin McGoldrick. The Holy Rosary will be said at 6:45PM followed by the sung litany of Our Lady of Loretto in Latin at 7PM, organ music at 7:15PM and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at 7:30PM. Parking is available on 66th Street adjacent to the Monastery.
The Cathedral in Springfield Missouri now offers a High Mass every Sunday at 3 PM and all Holydays (either at 12:15 or 7 PM…call Cathedral Office) and will retain its daily Mass schedule for the Extraordinary Form: Tuesday-Friday 12:15 PM in the Chapel.
St Ambrose, Old Bridge, Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey. Father Bob Gorman celebrates Mass according to the Missal of Blessed Pope John XXIII Saturdays at 9:30 AM.

I’m already aware of the handful of TLMs that have been regularly available there during the past few years (St. Stephens, Immaculate Conception, Akron St. Mary’s), but my job has kept me away from home for a few years and was hoping that some good news might greet me when I finally return to that terrestrial paradise we call Northeast Ohio.

in jacksonville, fl we now have a second tlm at st. joseph’s historic church (the other parish is immaculate conception where the tlm has been said since the mid-late 80’s). this Mass is held every 1st and 3rd sunday, for now (hopefully weekly soon!), and is said by fr. darius sleszynski. thanks be first to God; then, thanks to fr. dan cody for his courage in being the only current pastor “brave” enough to allow this; even more thanks to alan rees who practically single handedly has made this happen.
As reported a few weeks ago on Rorate Caeli, Mater Dolorosa Church in South San Francisco now offers TLM (a Missa Cantata, unless I am mistaken) on the First Sunday of each month at 6:30 PM.
Signs are good we may have a TLM in the Waterloo, Iowa area with two holy priests of the archdiocese looking at sharing responsibility. And at a gorgeous old church at that still with its high altar intact. Knock on wood, something will be in place by Labor Day. A comment about the first comment: I like to think Tolkien got the idea for the fire signals from the bible. Judges 6:1-2, “The Israelites offended the Lord, who therefore delivered them into the power of Midian for seven years, so that Midian held Israel subject. For fear of Midian the Israelites established the fire signals on the mountains, the caves for refuge, and the strongholds.” Fire signals and Helm’s Deep!

Some Good News! Young Catholic Adults Douai Abbey Latin Mass Retreat Gets Bigger and Better
During the weekend of the 18-20 September 2009. Young Catholic Adults (YCA are part of the international Juventutem Federation) will be running a Traditional Retreat at Douai Abbey in the south of England, the weekend will be led by Juventutem Ecclesiastical Assistant Fr de Malleray. Summorum Pontificum must be working – at least in a “brick by brick” fashion, just look at the following:-
-For the first time Young Catholic Adults will be using the main Abbey Church for Mass
-For the first time YCA will be organising a Missa Cantata, sung by the Douai Singers; this will be followed by a Marian Procession
– YCA has booked out the whole of the retreat complex this year, on the advice of Douai Abbey itself, as the monks were so pleased with the YCA retreat last year
Places are limited so please book early
-YCA will have the retreat centre to itself
-There will be a social in the evening
– Fr. de Malleray FSSP head of Juventutem will preach the retreat, all Masses will be in the Extraordinary form
– There will be a Sung Mass (Missa Canta) on Saturday 19th September 09’ at 10am. The choir will be the Douai Singers, in the main Abbey Church, followed by a Marian Procession at 11am (starting from the main Abbey Church) around the extensive grounds of the Abbey (weather permitting, if the weather is poor there will be Marian devotions in the main Abbey Church )
-The weekend will be full-board (except for the Sunday lunch)

I came in here to post the second latin mass in the Diocese of St. Augustine, but was beat to the punch. The 15 minute drive and 11 am-ish(I need to find this out for tomorrow :P) start time is much more convenient than the 35+ minute drive to the 8 AM at Immaculate Conception.

– Every Saturday in July, 12noon at Sacred Heart, Bridgeton. One of the younger priests of the diocese has been learning to say the Traditional Mass (sometimes 11am, call the church to confirm http://www.sacredheartbridgeton.co.uk). This also means that the regular Sunday Mass, at 10.15am in the same church, continues throughout July (when usually there is a break.
The Latin Mass in Carmel, IN at 3pm in the day chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is to be a sung Mass every other week from now until roughly Christmas at which point, God willing, it will be sung Mass every week.

Very unexpectedly I was contacted about six weeks ago by a young priest at a parish about five miles from my home who wanted to start offering the T.L.M. publicly. Although he had the support of his pastor there was some opposition in the parish plus a very busy Mass schedule so I suggested he start with some feast day Masses to gauge the interest and let people “ease into” it. This was in line with his thinking and so it proceeded. The first Mass was on the Feast of the Sacred Heart and there were 100 in attendance, the second was for the Visitation last Thursday and despite inclement weather and the beginning of a long weekend there were over 50. It has been very well received by a solid (stable?) group of parishioners and there were lots of people from surrounding towns as well. If there is good attendance at the next two Masses (Transfiguraton, and a Sung Mass for St. John Vianney) he will attempt to introduce a Sunday Mass at least once a month. Brick-by-brick…

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 259 Oliver Street, Newark, New Jersey, will hold a Solemn High Traditional Latin Mass in honor of its patroness, on the titular feast of the parish, July 16 at 12 noon. The Mass will be immediately followed by a procession with the statue of Our Lady through the parish accompanied by a full symphonic Italian feast band and fireworks.
For those of you who do not know, the first Sunday of every month-including tomorrow- Mass in the Extraordinary Form is offered in St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Wheeling W Va. Since that’s only one per month, I guess you can say it’s new- only about ten Masses have been said in the Extraordinary Form so far. But the priest who says it says the OF for television in the morning and is the assistant pastor for the cathedral (whatever that position is called). So he is a very active and competent priest. I believe these Masses will go on for a long while. I think I remember someone saying that the priest said they would like to have it more often.

A Latin Mass will be offered in the Sandhills of NC next Monday, per the present schedule. It will be the first offered here – but if all goes well it will by no means be the last. As details for future Celebrations are ironed out, I’ll post more information; for now I simply want friends to know another brick is being laid in the Diocese of Raleigh.

Girgadis, I have seen the same information and I too will be going regardless. However, when I spoke to Fr. McGoldrick I asked him who the deacon and subdeacon would be – so there is no confusion. By the way, a Solemn Mass is also sung, so if anything it will be more solemn than a Missa Cantata.
Not a new Mass, but a schedule change. The weekly 1:00 p.m. Sunday Latin Mass at St. Odilo in Berwyn, Illinois, will be moving to the more desirable time of 9:30 a.m.
Does the following qualify as a TLM announcement?
There is a young priest in the Dallas Diocese who wished to offer the TLM (and Ordinary Form in Latin). His pastor has prevented the priest from offering either form of Mass (in Latin) and the Chancery isn’t keen to support the priest.
But the priest believes that he will likely offer the TLM (and Novus Ordo in Latin) when he someday is given a parish to pastor.
Let’s pray for the priest. Let’s also pray that his elevation to pastor arrives quickly. When that day arrives, the TLM would for the first time in about 40 become a regular part of Sunday worship at a Dallas parish.
