My schola sang well yesterday despite two singers being out sick.
And, it’s a beautiful fall day here in Champaign, IL. I really should have brought my camera while walking to work.
Former employer (THE phone company) tracked me down…after 5 years…and offered me a permanent-employee slot back in the Labs heading up some projects for next-gen network security development and such. So…instead of working for a beltway bandit on the last year of a failing and contentious contract…pulled out a bump in salary and great bennies…as well as bridging previous time.
St. Anthony really outdid himself, and I am grateful to the Blessed Mother for looking after one of Her unworthy sons. Deo gratias.
It was my birthday yesterday: I am now 28.

We will have a second Solemn High Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield, Illinois, on Saturday, November 21. Deo Gratias!
The negotiations have started between the SSPX and the Vatican; and this could lead to a better understanding of the documents of Vatican II.
There will be a Solemn High Mass at Mission San Juan Bautista next Sunday for the Feast of Christ the King. Fr. James Fryar of the FSSP, who is leading a pilgrimage of the California Missions, will be the Celebrant and deliever the Sermon. It will be the first Solemn High Mass we have had at Mission San Juan Bautista since we started having the Traditional Latin Mass last June.

I’ve been stressed over the number of extraneous “busy work” projects being assigned to us by our administration. I teach in a “private school in the Catholic tradition” and this year we are required to submit quarterly “course synopses. There is no time to get all the grading done, test made and copied, courses prepared, research done, phone calls and emails from parents returned, let alone all these extraneous “busy work” projects. The administration is behind in their work, too, as we didn’t even receive annual evaluations for more than two years (but I’m not complaining)! The Holy Spirit inspired me this morning as I drove to work: the next time our “Head of the Upper School” starts to quack frantically that I haven’t completed any of the aforementioned “busy work projects”, I shall tell them that I think he may have filed them with last year’s evaluations. God IS SO GOOD!
H.E. Tissier de Mallery will offer Mass in the Lower Bascilica at Lourdes on the Feast of Christ the King (EF) this coming Sunday. The Bishop of Lourdes granted the approval and the SSPX was most appreciative and expressed as much to the same Bishop and all who granted approval. That an SSPX Bishop will offer Mass is monumental in itself. But the most welcomed occurance was the civility showed on everyones part.
I just got engaged!
We are getting married at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, Kentucky on August 7th next year! I am very happy that the priest that I have known since I was 9 is the officiate (Father Ed Brodnick) and my husband-to-be is Catholic and we are good at helping each other in our journey of faith. He is a blessing and my life, despite the stress and frustrations, has continued to grow more Christ-centered with his presence. Thanks be to God!
A priest from my diocese (who was pastor of a nearby parish for many years), Fr. Paul Etienne, will be consecrated bishop and installed in the Diocese of Cheyenne in December. Deo Gratias!
20-week ultrasound on Oct. 9 revealed a healthy, active baby. That same week, our offer to buy our first house (right behind our church!) was accepted. God is good!

Finally, at long last, the discussions between the SSPX and the Holy See begin next Monday, Oct 26th, in earnest. Frankly, I’m not looking for any sudden agreement between the parties concerned – just civil and courteous exchanges between theologians striving for the salvation of souls and the good of the Church. This could be a watershed moment in the history of the Church and my hope is that everyone will pray for the success of these discussions.
Started my final year of collage two weeks ago and from the looks of things we may finally have a weekly EF in Bristol, UK !!!!
Yesterday, World Mission Sunday, I had the opportunity to hear and meet two fascinating bishops:
Bishop Emeritus of Incheon, Korea (South) – William John McNaughton.
Bishop of Chalatenango, El Salvador – Luis Morao Andreazza.
We collected over 500 signed and addressed postcards to send to the Canadian Prime Minister regarding the proposed euthanaisa/assisted-suicide legislation. Very few people declined to sign it.
The nicest person in my department is pregnant with her second. I just started a new job as a part-time firefighter and this past weekend we had live fire training and burned a house to the ground. My kids were great at our local TLM Sunday. My wife was as bummed as I was that we fogot our missal (she has been slower than me to warm up to the TLM.) My wife took our kids on their first field trip with the homeschooling moms from our TLM. Our parish is starting a capital campaign to fix up some structural issues and this weekend we sat through a great video presentation about the project – most of the footage shot during Mass was from the TLM.
It’s just really nice outside.

I was just able to purchase 2 volumes of the latin Liturgia Horarum for a very inexpensive price. To me, that is good news.
A local parish just celebrated 11 years of their perpetual adoration chapel, still going strong. And my five month old slept through the night last night from 9 at night to 7 this morning with no cries in between.
Yesterday after our EF mass I heard something very inspiring. After each mass one of the women in the choir loft leads a “prayer for vocations” which begins “Lord grant that one of my sons becomes a priest, I promise to live as a good Christian woman[man]…”. For the first time I heard my 8 year old daughter praying aloud with us that prayer. Praying that one HER sons would enter the priesthood (my grandchildren). It was pretty special. I have great hope for the restoration of the Church and we’re looking long-term!
My former parish, the fairly liberal parish where I was baptized and confirmed, has a new pastor. Magically, Fr. McBrien’s column has disappeared from the weekly bulletin.
The Fraternity of St. Peter will be celebrating a sung Mass, Missa Contota, at Sacred Heart, Chariton, IA on Sunday, November 15 at 1:00 p.m.
My 12 year old son told me last night that he would rather go to church for the prayer service and All Hallows Eve activities dressed as St. Bartholomew (his patron saint) than go “trick-or-treating” in our neighborhood on Halloween. Yippee!
I finally received Communion on the altar rail last week!
I hadn’t been able to work up the courage but thanks to my prayers and some friends who came with me I finally did it. (and it wasn’t nearly as scary as I thought it would be).
My good news is about the 40 Days for Life effort. Prayer, fasting, Eucharistic Adoration and prayer near an abortion clinic are the key elements. Oct. 7th, The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, a group of men and women, joined by our Pastor, prayed the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy outside near a clinic in our area. Having finished and left the site of the prayer vigil, word came to us that the power went out, right in that immediate area! No procedures could have been done the rest of that day at the clinic. Now that’s what I call good news!
More good news is that the number of positive reactions (honks, waves, thumbs up’s, smiles) far exceed the number of negative things that are said (or yelled from a speeding car). I believe the tide has really turned on the abortion issue, more minds and hearts are changing for the good, for LIFE. Thanks be to God and to Our Blessed Mother, Mary.
I finally signed a lease on a little studio apartment of my own, instead of having to sharehouse! Also, I made a good confession, my fiance has been looking after me while I’ve been really ill, and my priest gave me the number of a good Catholic doctor because the non-Catholic doctor basically gave me the options of either taking contraceptives or not being treated.

My baby was baptized a Catholic on Sunday; he didn’t even cry.
Terrific, faithful godparents were no trouble to find this time. And the music at the cathedral was excellent.
Good news, but prayers needed for this one.
Yesterday in front of Planned Parenthood- a young girl was trying to get into PP to get an abortion- but the front door was locked…this gave the break in her momentum neccessary to allow her to come and talk to us. She ended up agreeing to go with us to a pro-life pregnancy center where she was able to receive an ultrasound of her 7-week old baby. She is now considering keeping the baby or adoption- but abortion is still in the mix here. So if you all could pray for Arlette today- she is in dire need of prayer support!
