What Can Brown Do For You? Scratch Another Pro Abortion CINO!
The victory by Scott Brown in Massachusetts tonight is a victory for Catholics. Brown, a protestant, defeated Martha Coakley, the Massachusetts Pro Abortion ["Catholic"] Attorney General. Coakley, like Nancy Pelosi and the late Ted Kennedy whose Senate seat they were fighting for, likes to call herself Catholic. She is anything but. CINO candidates like this must be defeated.
And while it would be nice to say (and maybe someday we will be able to) that the race swung because a couple of million Massachusetts Catholics said no to abortion and no to CINOs, [clearly not the case] this race swung on other political issues (although she did opine that maybe Catholics should not work in emergency rooms that might be called upon to provide abortion services. How considerate.)
This all leads me to an excellent post appearing tonight from Adore te Devote on the very subject of pro-abortion politicians who call themselves Catholic.
I don’t care who you are! If you willfully and publicly dissent against and advance teachings that contradict the Faith and Morals of the Catholic Church, you have separated yourself from us all, and therefore you may be “Catholic” in name and by baptism (for by virtue of this, there is always hope…I’m a sinner, too, and screw up a LOT), but you LOSE the right to proclaim in conjunction with a public life and advancement in the eyes of others, a Faith you obstinately REFUSE, ESPECIALLY if you’re using it for your political advancement to purposefully fleece those who are even more uncatechized than you!

After watching Senator Elect Brown’s acceptance speech, I read his Wikipedia entry and found this:
“Brown and his family are Protestant Christians, and worship at New England Chapel in Franklin, a member of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. They also have a relationship with an order of Cistercian Catholic nuns at Mt. St. Mary’s Abbey in Wrentham. The Brown family has raised over $5 million for the order, helping to install solar panels, a wind turbine and a candy manufacturing plant that the order operates. Sister Katie McNamara has said of the family, “[w]e pray for them every day”.”
I found this rather interesting as well as edifying.
I read on this blog within the last few days that Senator-elect Brown is actually for abortion, but doesn’t think the government should interfere, which is why he is opposed to the health care plan as written (correct me if I’m wrong). That being the case, what has me worried is that he could be “bought off” just as two other senators were in 2009 just so those from the “Pelosi Catholic Church” could get the preliminary stuff through. (I’m having trouble with my “b” key, so if anything looks like it’s missing a letter, just add a “b”)
I hope CINO will be pronounced with a soft “c” rather than a hard “c”. It would seem quite wrong to use a homonym of the Jesuit missionary Eusebio Kino, famous in the Southwest.
So, CINO it is, if it is pronounced like “Sino” rather than the worthy Padre Kino.
The concept is correct, Catholics In Name Only. This is the first time I have heard it used in reference to Catholics (before only for Republicans), but the pronunciation of a word is quite important as well.
“A victory for Catholics.”
Only by comparison. Senator-Elect Brown is, in his own terms, a “new breed” of Republican. Which sounds frighteningly like someone trying to change the party platform to suit his needs and intentions, which, sadly, include abortion as an option.
And so, Bravo! to my home-state for finally choosing other than the cookie-cutter democrat, but Massachusicrats are still not nearly out of the woods when it comes to positive work on the moral and social spheres.
Sen-elect Scott Brown is not pro-life. He believes that the decision to get an abortion is between a woman and her doctor. He does believe in conscience protections for health care workers. He is also against taxpayer funding of abortions and partial birth abortion. Importantly, he is against this monstrosity of a death care bill. He’s against it for fiscal reasons, because he’s against the high level of government control of our lives that it means, and because it funds abortions and lacks conscience protections.
No, he’s not a strong pro-life politician. But he is far, far better than we ever could have hoped for from the bluest of blue states.
He is on the right road; let us pray for his continued conversion to the cause of life.

It would be great if Scott Brown would join us on the Mall in DC Friday. What a shot in the arm that would be for the 200,000 or so pro-life youth who will be with us there. If he came so would the press, we always have hundreds of police, who as Martha says are a good thing, but never much press. I would love to see him pull up in his pick up truck with his clothes on of course.

It’s a sad commentary on the state of things when we have to depend on someone who is not pro-life to stave off the barbarian hordes. Tom, don’t expect Sen.-elect Brown to show up; he is only “with us” to the extent that he doesn’t want abortion subsidized by the government or pro-life health workers frog-marched into facilitating abortions. He is still, by his own admission, pro-abortion; from our perspective, he is merely (I hope no one takes this uncharitably) the lesser of two evils.
