I really needed to see that today….
I just received word that my mother (age 83 and in failing health) passed away last night around 2 a.m. She was a devout convert of more than 50 years, and she could have “chosen” no more appropriate day to have entered eternal life than the very night of the Easter Vigil.
Also, my daughter (age 14) is being confirmed on Friday.
Mom was very much a “fan” of the Divine Mercy devotions so I think I will start the novena today, better late than never. Her name was Alice, if you care to add her to your Divine Mercy prayer intentions.

Happy and holy Easter from your old friends at St. Raphael’s in Crystal.
Fr. Z, this morning at 11am mass, my choir sang the Gloria from the Trinitatis Mass of Mozart. Since we had the strings there for that, we also did the Ave Verum with strings as well as two Mozart Organ sonatas (KV 69 in D and KV 145 in F). All this at the request of our new pastor, Msgr Schuler’s nephew.
Who knows, next time we may try a Sanctus or even a Credo! Brick by brick.

I sang at our Roman parish’s Vigil at 7:45, we were at the Russian Catholic parish from about 11:30 until 3 not including the potluck afterward, and then did 10:30 and 12:15 Mass back at the Roman parish today. Tried to take a nap this afternoon but was startled by our building shaking because of the earthquake in Mexico–terra tremuit indeed!
We heard Paschal greetings in many languages at the Russian church last night–English, Slavonic, Greek, Latin, Arabic and Spanish–but we didn’t hear any in Irish! I am trying to learn a bit of Irish just now, so here goes:

Good news! My wife and I did not fight about going to ABC Church. this is the first year. ABC(Anything But Catholic) ABC is her parents new church. It is the latest church after going to the Southern Baptist church she grew up in. We did not have to go to little Joel Osteen’s church and ride the rides or pet the sheep. She did not have to hear my aplogetics. And my Dad and Mom came over for the Easter dinner with our entire ( her family) too. In some ways, it is a miracle. Thank you St. Joseph!

Splendid, joyful, PACKED at every Mass. Great music. Many new baptized. Everybody in the parish is just about run off their legs, but happy.
One of our Parochial Vicars said today that he enjoyed seeing us dashing about upstairs in the choir loft — many of the musicians (including self and dear husband) do double duty as singers and handbell ringers, and we wind up hieing ourselves (as reverently as possible) from the choir stalls to the handbell tables and back as needed. It must look pretty amusing — but at least the congregation can’t see us scrambling, unless they crane their heads around. I am SO thankful this isn’t an English/abbey church where the choir has to sit in the chancel and you daren’t even turn a page quickly . . . .

Peggy, your choirmaster and ours think alike! All the same hymns — we also did Crown Him With Many Crowns (has an absolutely splendid descant, my favorite). We sang O Sons & Daughters as the sequence. The handbells rang The Strife is O’er and This Joyful Eastertide for offertory, and the choir sang Telemann’s Psalm 117 (Laudate Jehovam Omnes Gentes) with a violinist on unofficial loan from the Chicago Symphony (her mom sings in the choir!) Also sang the Mozart Spaurmesse in C (K 258).

Happy and Blessed Easter. Our week was awesome. Sang at everything, including Thursday and Saturday Tenebrae (hubby sang at Friday and Saturday). Sang Midnight and morning Easter Masses. Today was spent with Mom and my extended family. Tired tonight. 3 nights of bedtime past midnight are 3 too many.
God bless you all, especially all you priests, for whom I pray daily. Thank you for helping us to become more holy. Thank you for working hard for the restoration of the Faith, traditional Mass and Sacraments, AMDG.

Managed to get all eight kids fed and dressed and out on time to the Vigil last night. The three-year-old mercifully fell asleep in my lap mid-way through. Our pastor is blessed with a wonderful voice and chanted the Exultet and the Gospel. We had something like ten baptisms last night, plus many, many more receiving confirmation, professing the Faith and receiving Our Lord for the first time. Very beautiful to see.
Christos Anesti!! With our 5 little boys, a trip back to visit the family in Cleveland, attendance at Divine Liturgy and seeing my tiny 6-year-old serve on the altar for the the first time, it was a very joy-filled Pascha!

My mother died on the evening of Divine Mercy Sunday six years ago-in fact, the 18th of April this year falls on Sunday, though it’s the Sunday after the Feast of Mercy.
I know I already said it….but…Christ Is Truly Risen! He has conquered sin and death!

Laurinda-I feel the same way. I had been praying the Sorrowful Mysteries all during Lent (with the exceptions of St. Patrick’s Day, St. Joseph’s Day, and Annunciation Day). Now it’s wonderful to offer the Glorious Mysteries everyday till Pentecost.
It’s so cool to read Easter greetings in all the different languages-it shows the universality of the Church, and how world-wide WDTPRS readers are!
