Okay… grilled is a little melodramatic.
I was at the Newscorp Building where Fox News Channel is ensconced to tape some Q&A for some upcoming projects my good friend Greg Burke, FNC’s Rome correspondent, is preparing.
Some people will probably look at this building with a measure of fear, as they cower below it. I see it as a place where the news industry gained some balance.
Here’s a really unflattering photo with books in the background.
We were going to do this in a church, but it didn’t work out.
I actually asked to make sure that none of the books on the shelves were “bad”. I don’t know about you, but I always look at the books on the shelves.
The very cool FNC people who helped with the taping. Taping. That doesn’t sound adequately digital, does it.
Really nice people, as has always been my experience with any of the FNC crew. I managed to crack them up during an answer today… and I’ll bet every dollar in my pocket that segment doesn’t get used.
So… that was part of my afternoon.
WDTPRS Kudos to the FNC behind the scenes staff.
And, to wrap this up, I assume my stuff will be used, if they use it, for the beatification coverage.
“Taping” is OK. We still dial a phone, even though we don’t. And music “albums” haven’t really been albums since they were books of 78’s. :)
Wow, that must be scary. I would be hiding under a chair.
Is Greg in town, Father? Just wondering.
Nope. In Rome.
“Taping” is now an archaic expression.
So, what word should be invented to replace it?
“Recording” is the word that replaces taping.
Don’t worry about the photo being unflattering, Fr Z, all my photos are unflattering, too. But then, I’m not much to look at :-)
I’ll tune in for the beatification. It will be helpful for many to turn to JPII as a saint who can intercede on our behalf. I will ask that he intercede for us on behalf of the cause of increased balance in the media…
I actually still tape a lot of things.
As an old radio hand…my internet studio still has a reel-to-reel, cassette, and (for those who spent time in the industry, they’ll get this…) an ITC triple deck cart machine and record amp that still works and sounds good (and a supply of carts, besides). I still TAPE. Call me a paleolithic broadcast engineer (and my ham radio transceivers have *gasp* TUBES….remember them?)
Just because it’s old..(I do use Audacity to do my voicetracks and such, though…) doesn’t mean it isn’t still useful.
:).
Ha! I still listen to 8-tracks. Still? Probably not the right word seeing how they never were technology from my era. My parents’ music from the 70s is just better than mine.
FNC?
Friday Night Catholic? (I’d like to see this FCN vs SNL – God is our host!)
What channel? :)
Hey, Father Z, I think you look pretty good there!
Wish I could watch the beatification-I don’t have TV or Internet at home.
Trying to recall what I’ve seen of your work space in webcam shots you’ve posted, and what books have been visible…
If you were to create a little headshot environment, what books would you make visible, Father?
I’d guess that beyond the “obvious” scriptural, liturgical, and language tomes, there might be a Patrick O’Brian, an Audubon Society field guide, a cookbook, an astronomy reference…
