From The Catholic League:
BISHOPS ACCUSED OF “THOUGHT CONTROL”
May 9, 2012
The following comment against the Vatican and the bishops, made in response to concerns over the Leadership Conference of Women Religious [LCWR, a subsidiary of the Magisterium of Nuns], is taken from a May 8 editorial in the National Catholic Reporter:
“This is the latest episode of episcopal flailing about in a search for enemies anywhere and everywhere to explain how so much has escaped their control. This isn’t about authentic teaching and orthodoxy. This is about thought control and censorship.”
Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments as follows:
It is important for the bishops to know that the National Catholic Reporter, [aka Fishwrap] which is adored by the Catholic Press Association, regards them to be no better than the totalitarian monsters who have ruled in communist and fascist nations. Hitler, Stalin and Mao perfected thought control, and that is what the bishops are now accused of promoting. Even for the Reporter, this assault represents a new low. [Don’t worry… they’ll soon limbo-writhe beneath an even lower bar.]
I will make sure that every bishop in the U.S. gets this news release. [I’ll help!]

But they’ll actually defend Obama and the HHS who are actually promoting communist ideals?
I bet the folks running NCR were also glorifying this particular moment in American political history… Never forget…

The problem with the Fishwrap is that if they don’t appreciate your comment, they simply don’t publish it. I was badgering the new editor about their recent fund raising efforts, in which Fishwrap allegedly raised $100,000. All I said was that it was another $100,000 that would now be used to try destroy the Church from the inside… I really cannot understand why they took offense to that…?
Do the journalists (sic) at Fishwrap believe in an afterlife? Scary.
…flailing about in a search for enemies anywhere and everywhere…
I can see how that would hit a nerve for Donohue.
a stopped clock is right twice a day. “The last temptation is the greatest treason, to do the right thing for the wrong reason” (future St Thomas Becket in Murder in the Cathedral by T. S. Eliot). I don’t know what particular episode the NCR is referring to, as I don’t read it, but I suspect they’re partially correct. The whole mess with the LCWR has to be dealt with, but this is the same LCWR that represents women who fill chanceries and Liturgy offices and run the NCEA.
“Even for the Reporter, this assault represents a new low. [Don’t worry… they’ll soon limbo-writhe beneath an even lower bar.]”
And I’ll bet they can go pretty low. After all…
Then the LORD God said to the snake:
Because you have done this,
cursed are you
among all the animals, tame or wild;
On your belly you shall crawl,
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
I must re-quote this line from Zagano’s screed:
“The drop in vocations to women’s institutes is not because young women don’t trust you. It is because they don’t trust the men.”
Is this not more confirmation that Modernism, and especially its shrill spawn called radical feminism, make up some form of delusional psychosis?
It comes as no surprise that the comments on ncronline are apparently moderated. That would account for the stunning absence of ANY messages negative to the article.
@ wmeyer;
Either that OR…the intellectual honesty over there is so great that there can be no dissension. All who read the great and powerful Oz, love the great and powerful Oz. Nevermind the man behind the curtain. /sarcasm\
@Andy Milam:
Wait, this just in: my own message just appeared there, uncensored. So I must, in all humility, retract my earlier comment.
BaedaBenedictus: Is this not more confirmation that Modernism, and especially its shrill spawn called radical feminism, make up some form of delusional psychosis?
As if we needed more proof. So far, we see Fr. Richard Rohr, the use of the Enneagram instead of prayer and spiritual contemplation, invitation of dissidents to speak at their assemblies. Just how many facts must we gather before we conclude that they are true to a belief set which is not compatible with our faith?
What else is new *sigh* God spare us
Maybe we should make a list of all these CINO (Catholic In Name Only) rags and give ’em to the bishops, who can then put out an official newsletter to all the faithful, advising them to either not subscribe or drop their subscriptions posthaste.
Let’s see…

What other ones do we need to add to the list? I’m sure I haven’t covered them all.
The truly ironic thing is that Michael Voris is not to use the name Catholic in his work, but Fishwrap can. Really?
“This is about thought control and censorship”
It never ceases to amaze and exasperate me how this scum accuses others of what they themselves perpetrate, and with such venom. These people are furious that they have to listen to orthodoxy and would do anything they can to control and censor Church doctrine. This type has been working at it for over 40 years.
They appear to not be able to even listen and consider another side, or that they just might be wrong, on top of that.
That is when I say thank God for the internet and places like this blog.
And YEA, what Scarltherr said.
Augustin57 : Add the Jesuit magazine America to your list.

And yet Michael Voris continues to do use the name Catholic, so maybe he has more in common with the Fishwrap than you think.

Oh? And what are some of these commonalities you accuse Voris of? It was to my understanding that the case against Voris has dubious merit. What with all the legalities, and what with the archdiocese refusing to even dialogue with Voris to sort anything out. Funny… given how they love dialoguing with practically everyone else… But if there’s any updates to the story I missed I’d like to hear them.
Yeah, everybody who is accused says the case against them has dubious merit. Milingo “declined” to be excommunicated. The LCWR is shocked — shocked! — that the Holy See would have the temerity to attempt to oversee them. The faculty at just about every university has a list of reasons why they claim Ex Corde Ecclesiae does not apply to them. That is the similarity.
Instead of the silliness about Mao etc, it would perhaps be of greater benefit to simply raise the question concerning fairness – if editorial posts are so critical and hostile to the bishops, what chance do they have of receiving fair coverage or treatment by this publication? The solution – the bishops and priests should have nothing to do with this publication.
