Chick-fil-A still ruffling [Chicago alderman] Proco Joe Moreno’s feathers

CHICAGO August 3, 2012— Chicago aldermen are not known for their intelligence, [And we’re off to the races!] intellectual abilities, critical thinking, or even horse sense, the sense horses have that keep them from betting on humans.
1st Ward Alderman Proco Joe Moreno proved that by trying to argue, through the media of course, with Cardinal George of Chicago’s Catholic Archdiocese. Proco Joe definitively proved any simpleton could and does get elected to office in Chicago. [Pace H.L. Mencken, no Chicago pol ever lost office by underestimating the intelligence of his constituents. Pres. Obama is, if I recall, a Chicago politician. His values included promoting infanticide. Now they include openly attacking the Catholic Church as he promotes his culture of death agenda.]
“Recent comments by those who administer our city seem to assume that the city government can decide for everyone what are the ‘values’ that must be held by citizens of Chicago,” Cardinal George wrote on the Archdiocese of Chicago’s blog Sunday. [HERE]
“I was born and raised here, and my understanding of being a Chicagoan never included submitting my value system to the government for approval. Must those whose personal values do not conform to those of the government of the day move from the city?”
To which Moreno responded:
“It’s unfortunate that the cardinal, as often happens, [As often happens… how? To whom? ] picks parts of the Bible and not other parts,” said Chicago Alderman Proco Joe Moreno in response to Cardinal George/Chicago Tribune, who added that he was raised Catholic in western Illinois, [At a subsidiary of post-Vatican II Am-Church, I’ll bet.] attended a Catholic grade school and was an altar boy. Moreno said he now occasionally attends church. [And yet Moreno says, above, “as often happens”, suggesting that Card. George, and not just a generic “people out there”, proof-text from the Bible. No doubt this ex-altar boy (There’s a credential to impress!) hangs on every word the Cardinal writes and utters.]
“The Bible says many things,” Moreno said. “For the cardinal to say that Jesus believes in this, and therefore we all must believe in this, I think is just ingenuous and irresponsible. The God I believe in is one [Did he really write that? Ah the fruits of a Catholic edyucashun!] about equal rights, and to not give equal rights to those that want to marry, is in my opinion un-Christian.” [Do the parts of that sentence … never mind.]
All you need is the “blessing of the boys”, an ancient sacrament of the Holy Democratic Crime Family better known as the Democratic Machine. A mind is not necessary in the mindless machine.
It is evident Proco Joe never read the Bible, [Which clearly, resoundingly, condemns homsexual acts.] let alone paid attention in whatever parochial school he claims to have attended. It is apparent that Proco Joe picks and chooses what he believes in, except for the one true faith, the one religion, the one gospel – the Chicago Democratic Machine.
It is the theology of “money power”.
So Proco Joe sold his soul to Beelzebub and converted to the Democratic Chicago Way, the only true religion in Chicago. Their bible preaches vileness, avarice, greed, corruption, and criminality. Those are and always have been the values of Chicago politicians.
Money is power, power is money. That is the Chicago Way. The more money politicians amass they can run for reelection, they can also contribute to each help each other, and they amass more power.
If Chick-fil-A wrote a big check people would be stunned how fast Proco Joe could shove tasty chicken sandwiches down his gullet.

Does this dope have any idea to whom he is talking? While ordination does not instill automatic theological knowledge, Cardinal George is pretty obviously on the money here. Even a few minutes of googling would bear this out.

Personally, I think attacking his intelligence is unhelpful and distracts from what the Cardinal actually said. The Cardinal’s comments were clear and could even be agreed upon by the most anti-Catholic atheist. Mr Moreno dodged this and tried to treat this as a question of Sola Scriptura.
He must be called out as dishonest and not merely stupid and held to account for what the Cardinal actually said, since he has no defense.
As for the issue of Sola Scriptura, we can remind him that Catholics do not hold to Sola Scriptura (neither do Conservative Protestants, but that’s another story) so any attempt at interpreting scripture through the “hermeneutic of modernism” carries no weight.
Only in Chicago would a machine politician, who “occasionally” attends church, have the chutzpah to lecture the Cardinal Archbishop who has earned multiple doctorates (and who seems to frequently be seen around churches) on matters of theology and morality.
I have noticed that people who sin become less rational. There is a connection between liberal mushy thinking, as re: pro-civil marriage and not believing in natural law, and aiding and abetting sin. If one supports sin, one is sinning. Satan is probably less intelligent than he would have been if he has stayed holy and obedient. Stupidity becomes a cultural disease when moral frames of reference go out the window.

As a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Detective many years ago my partner and I went to Ohio on an extradition and came back via a plane change @ O’Hare Airport in Chicago. The extradited subject was a mafia “hit man” who had been indicted in LA for multiple homicides. He was 6’6″, weighed close to 300# and was NOT a cooperative guy. As luck would have it we had an 8 hour flight delay in Chicago so we sought out the airport office of Chicago PD which had a small jail for holding prisoners.
The Chicago PD officers who staffed the office/jail made it clear they did not like or trust cops from California but generously offered to house our prisoner if we would pay them (not the City of Chicago, not the police department but them) $100. “That’s how it works here” they explained. Being young, not exactly rolling in $$$, and knowing we’d never get reimbursed by the County of LA we declined and babysat the suspect until our flight boarded. That’s all I ever needed or wanted to know about “how things work” in Chicago.

Many of these politicians know John 3:16. They walk the fence “I’m Catholic, but…” They should read Revelations 3:16: “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.”

According to St Thomas there are four virtues of the intellect. Three of the speculative intellect (Wisdom, Knowledge, and Understanding) , which guides us in what we know, and one of the practical intellect (Prudence), which guides us in what we do.
Of the four Cardinal Virtues, Temperance, Fortitude, Justice, and Prudence, the latter is known as the Queen of the Virtues.
Hopefully more of these catholic politicians will come out of the closet so the bishops know to stop sleeping beside them. Then again… stuff like the recent CRS scandal and inviting Obama as a chief guest to their fundraiser suggests that the US bishops still haven’t got a clue…

What’s in the water that makes liberals so stupid?
For what it’s worth, Obama really is NOT a classic “Chicago Machine” politician. He wasn’t born or raised in Chicago, nor does his family of origin have roots there. Real Machine politicans like the two Mayors Daley tend to come from families that have been in the city at least two generations, sometimes longer, or that have married into other established families.
Also, the mark of a real Machine politican is that his ultimate ambition is NOT state or federal office, but local office — which gives them a chance to be a much bigger fish in a smaller pond, so to speak. If they run for state or federal office, that is just a stepping stone to becoming mayor or alderman or county board member. A Congressman, for example, will give up his seat to run for alderman, or a state legislator will give up his seat to run for the Cook County board. Or the White House chief of staff will give up his position to run for mayor. Can anyone seriously picture Obama running for mayor after he leaves the White House (hopefully, sooner rather than later)? I can’t. But that is what a true Machine politician would do. Rahm Emmanuel fits this profile. Obama doesn’t.
This is not to say that the Obama Administration has not picked up certain elements of Chicago-style corruption. However, the mere fact that he lived in Chicago when he was elected POTUS doesn’t make him a “Machine” politician. As the saying goes, you can put your shoes in the oven but that doesn’t make them biscuits.

But then for him to redefine the church for the rest of us, that’s just not appropriate.
