Pelosi: GOP ‘May Have a Religious View About Abortion — but Birth Control?’
By Eric Scheiner(CNSNews.com)- At a breakfast rally for the California Democratic Party earlier this week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she understood the religious views of Republicans on abortion but she described their opposition to government funding of contraception as “extremism”.
“It’s really important to point out the extremism of Republicans. They may have a religious view about abortion — but birth control? Birth control? – that they would shut down the government of the United States rather than fund Planned Parenthood. What more do you need to know about them,” Pelosi asked the gathering in Charlotte, North Carolina. [This catholic, persistently and manifestly pushing abortion and contraception despite her clear obligation as a Catholic to act according to the Church’s teaching in this matter of morals which cannot be fudged.]
Pelosi has been outspoken about her Catholic faith in the past.
Catholic teachings condemn the use of sterilization, contraception and abortion, based in part on the premise that man has no right to veto God’s decision to bring a new life into the world.
In April of last year, Democrats refused to pass any budget bill if it contained a measure to defund Planned Parenthood. Republicans dropped a measure that would have eliminated $363 million in Title X funding for Planned Parenthood in negotiations to avoid a government shutdown.

If Cardinal Dolan finally takes CIC 915 to heart and denies Holy Communion to the aforementioned, there is a very real likelihood that he will end up in jail later on for opposition to the government. Then again, sanguis martyrum semen Christianorum, so should Card. Dolan et alii be jailed, there will be positive repercussions.

Maybe this is why I couldn’t be a politician, but I see no problem with shutting down the Federal govt. until everyone could agree not to give Planned Parenthood a million dollars a DAY.

Open letter to Nancy Pelosi
Nancy, you are fooling yourself and I fear fooling many good Catholics. You are simply not in sync with the Catholic Church. Until you change your non-Catholic positions, you should stop calling yourself Catholic. Your record shows that you support embryonic stem cell research, Planned Parenthood, contraception, family planning funding, allowing minors to have an abortion without parental consent, and are against making it a crime to harm a fetus, etc. etc.
The fact that you favor married priests and women priests certainly would not classify you as conservative, but your answer to the question are you a conservative Catholic was: “I think so. I was raised in a very strict upbringing in a Catholic home where we respected people, were observant, were practicing Catholics, and that the fundamental belief was that God gave us all a free will, and we were accountable for that, each of us. Each person had that accountability, so it wasn’t for us to make judgments about how people saw their responsibility and that it wasn’t for politicians to make decisions about how people led their personal lives; certainly, to a high moral standards, but when it got into decisions about privacy and all the rest, then that was something that individuals had to answer to God for, and not to politicians.”
That sounds fair and tolerant, but your record belies high moral standards.
The NARAL rates you 100% pro-abortion. Your statement: “To me it isn’t even a question. God has given us a free will. We’re all responsible for our actions. If you don’t want an abortion, you don’t believe in it, [then] don’t have one. But don’t tell somebody else what they can do in terms of honoring their responsibilities. My family is very pro-life. They’re not fanatics and they’re not activists. I think they’d like it if I were not so vocally pro-choice.”
Do we not elect politicians to make laws that help people honor their responsibilities, such as protecting life itself? Can politicians not tell someone else not to kill? If you can kill a baby in the womb, Nancy, why not outside of it? Oh wait, you are in favor of partial birth abortion, so-called because the baby sticks out of the “mother” about halfway, while the “doctor” sucks out the baby’s brain. That seems comparable to the choice the Nazis made killing six million Jews.
Yes, Nancy, we (together with your pro-life family) would all like it if you were not so vocally pro-choice, i.e. pro-death. Until your choice is in line with Catholic doctrine, please, Nancy, do not receive the Eucharist when you attend Mass.

I believe Pelosi is a member of soon to be AB Cordileone’s archdiocese. Perhaps he will do something.
I see no evidence of action, that a heretic of Pelosi proportions will be subjected to 915. That would require a fatherly resolve that stands firm, versus the contiuned ecunemism efforts with the dealers of Satan.
In the next 4 years of a Obama regime, Pelosi may come out and describe herself as a bishopess of the new american patriotic catholic church. Maybe Dolan’s intentions are to keep the door open for some dialogue. Lets do all we can. while we can, to ensure this does not happen. ; )

Open excommunication at this point would be nothing less than an act of mercy. How much more open and apparent damage must she do to herself through fraud, and how much more open scandal must she cause, before her bishop has mercy on her and those she leads astray? She is excommunicate already; why cannot this truth be acknowledged openly?
Captain Peabody: It would not only be an act of mercy, but a very clear message to those who despite their claim to Catholic faith, follow her example. It is a scandal that any public figure so clearly out of communion with Rome should be allowed the public deceit of being and living Catholic.

Let’s start telling the TRUTH for a change – by describing Catholics involved in public Scandal (and this includes the public voting record of politicians) exactly what they are – – – HERETICS and/or SCHISMATICS.

Eventually the secular press would take notice and Heretical Politicians would come back to the Church or quit calling themselves ‘Catholic’.
Why every Diocese Bishop does not handle Scandal according to Canon 915 is mind boggling. Losing the souls of many to gain favors from some politician.
Did I read the article right? It looks to me as though it says the Republicans dropped a measure to defund PP because they weren’t willing to defund the Federal government; and, according to the same article, Pelosi accuses them of being willing to do what they weren’t willing to do. Is the article misquoting her or misrepresenting what happened during the “budget crisis”, or am I not reading the article right, or is she a bad liar on top of everything else? (By a bad liar I mean one who carelessly lies even when she knows the information she’s falsifying is public.) If I cared more I’d go find out myself…

I wish the Holy Father would extend a public plea for repentance to her by name, and specify an allotted amount of time for her to examine her conscience, confess, and be reconciled to the Church of Christ. If she fails to heed his call I wish, for the sake of her soul and the souls of those who agree with her, that he would publicly declare her excommunicated.
I cannot read souls, so I dare not impute motives to the bishops. However, when I look at my own soul I am sadly aware of the times I have feared conflict and so failed to do what I should have. Hey, I like the idea of Cardinal Dolan unrolling a scroll up there on the convention platform (a la ‘Becket’) and ‘throwing the book’ at Pelosi, Biden, Sibelius, and the rest of the ‘catholics’ in Obama’s minions! Wouldn’t that be awesome?
If that happened, I’d go right up to His Eminence, shake his hand (and kiss his ring, of course), and give him a great big bear hug! (can’t give him a great big check because I’m too ‘poor’ right now)

A convention hall isn’t a liturgically proper place to perform an excommunication, Dolan isn’t the ordinary where the convention is being held or for most of those people, canon law probably frowns on that sort of announcement style these days, blah blah blah reality.

My question to you, is why the fear? What possibly could the Bishops lose. A lay person may fear criticism from the media, and if a one is a political figure, they might think it will cost them politically. What baffles me is that a Bishop can lose exactly what? How will bad press cost a bishop, its not like they are elected? I can think of only a couple of possibilities:
1) The Bishops no longer believe the official teachings.
2) They are surrounded by liberal staffs and chancery employees and do not want to anger them
3) The priests are liberals and they do not want to anger their Priests ( This seems to have been part of the story when Former Bishop of Scranton, Bishop Martino was made to disappear.
Some of the behavior of the episcopate is more than a little disturbing. The bizarre house arrest of Priest for Life’s Fr. Pavone and the relative secrecy surrounding the outcome is truly odd. It is unclear who this aids other than the Planned Parenthood operatives at the DNC. What it looks like to me is that this was an effort to prevent Priests for Life from becoming involved in the election ( they typically issue a voter guide that is more relevant than the useless “Faithful Citzenship” that the USCCB puts out). This suppression of Fr. Pavone is almost creepy.
So my question is why? What is to be gained and by Who
Excommunications are not granted because a bishop sees into a soul or souls. Excommunications are consequences of actions.
Could a more seasoned Catholic or perhaps a member of the clergy clarify something for me? Haven’t Nancy Pelosi and Kathleen Sebelius excommunicated themselves through their actions? Is some proclamation by their Bishops needed?
Sissy, I think that numerous of our elected critters (and appointed ones) have excommunicated themselves. The value of a public notice would be to protect the faithful from the continued assertions by these people that they are Catholic and also pro-choice, or whatever. As with any public figure, these people are arguably role models. Were they publicly excommunicated, it might be more difficult for the laity to rationalize their own dissident positions.
I agree that there would be immense value in a public statement that “the following individuals are excommunicated; we call them to publicly repent and make penance”. I think they need it, and the flock needs it. I was just unsure whether they actually ARE excommunicated already based on actions, or whether something more is needed in the way of an official action by a Bishop.
Sissy, CCC 2272 makes it pretty clear, I think: “Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense.” As a pro-choice legislator, and a very determined supporter of Obamacare and Planned Parenthood, in how many abortions would you say she has cooperated? How many has she facilitated?
wmeyer, that’s my reading, too. What bothers me most about people like Pelosi is how many others has she led astray? And how many pro-abortion Catholics feel justified in their beliefs seeing that the Bishops do nothing?
Sissy, that is precisely why I think a published list is needed. Latae sententiae may have been the reality, but it is not clear to the laity, when:
– there is no public censure
– the people in question routinely receive the Eucharist
– no explicit warnings are given by by their bishops, or others
As I have said in numerous letters to HHS and local politicians, one doesn’t have to have any religious opinions about the matter to know that funding birth control medications is stupid and a waste of public money. If the government really wanted to provide free birth control for all it would be far cheaper to hand out condoms. They are very effective when used correctly, they don’t require any doctor visits, they have no side effects, they don’t have to be bought at a pharmacy, and did I mention that they are far, far cheaper? That would be a FAR better use of taxpayer money if government thought it was in the public interest to provide free birth control. But that’s not what they really want and so that’s not what they’re doing. Nancy Pelosi is a loon.
Pray that we might obtain a few bishops with backbones like St. Ambrose.

What do the bishops fear? I suspect that, in the case of Pelosi and other pro-death politicians, they fear the full weight of the Department of Justice falling on them, their dioceses, and the whole Catholic Church in the U.S. The kind of fortitude required to issue an excommunication is, unfortunately, not the kind of character trait that generally gets a priest noticed and pegged as a good choice for the episcopate.
Suburbanbanshee: I think you misunderstood me. I said that since I can’t read the bishops’ souls, I don’t what the bishops’ motives are for doing nothing. Pro-abortion politicians’ actions are an entirely different matter. Excommunication is levied for actions. We are in agreement.
Fr. Frank, fear of the DOJ, et al, may well account for the Bishops’ silence. It’s a rational fear with this administration. When the Gallup organization refused to bow to David Axelrod’s pressure to change their methodology, the company suddenly found itself being investigated by the DOJ.

If what is feared by the Bishops is an attack by the feds, If Obama wins they can expect such an attack regardless. The HHS mandate is merely the first salvo. Its time when you play poker with a small chip stack, if you make the normal bets, well your opponents will just grind you to dust over time. The Church needs to go “all in” Its the only way to change the nature of the game.
