When I worked in the Vatican I developed an insight: In the Vatican we update our equipment every 75 years, whether we need to or not.
I received a note today that Vatican Radio’s English section has – wait for it – a FACEBOOK page now!
How about popping over there and clicking the “like” button?
I am not sure if you have mentioned this already but Vatican radio also has released an app for Android phones. It is not overly featureful at the moment but they have committed to updating it and expanding it. But it does have a useful itinerary of the pope’s movements and major events, links to his speeches and talks, a news page, and is visually neat.

Why must we celebrate when the Vatican attaches her good name to such a trivial time-waster as Facebook?
Yes, I realize that I’m something of a Luddite, but if the goal is to “know the audience”, and therefore help the target population see and recognize the truth, why does this particular move seem more like (gosh, who was it who said this?) the Church must be both Virgin and prostitute? It seems to me that, to use another idea, attempting to reach a rap-music listening audience by putting Christian lyrics to rap style damages both, because they are incompatible.
Ok., I’ll stop now.
While I am no fan of Facebook (for many reasons) and there are signs that its time is winding down, nevertheless it is a place where people congregate and it has always been the Church’s habit to go to the highwys and by-ways to preach.
