It’s Friday and time not to eat meat.
The entree was spectacularly… dull.
The salad started with my macerating stuff.
In the bowl: a splash of decent balsamic vinegar, a jot of olive oil, a small clove of chopped garlic, two pinches of course salt, some sliced cherry tomatoes, and a heap of sliced strawberries.
Then, after about 20 minutes, cilantro cut up with scissors with
mixed greens.
I had exchanged texts today with a friend in Rome and had in mind one of my preferred desserts, strawberries in balsamic vinegar.
It was good. It would pair well with a sharp white, say Sauvignon Blanc or, better, Sancerre with its hint of grapefruit. I might want to eat this after chicken rather than fish.
Sancerre…excellent Fr. Z!
I wish you’d post more salads. I’m of the non-creative side and need ideas. About as fancy as I get is Greek salad, which doesn’t fit my student budget given the rise in cost of feta and olives.
I was at the store today and saw two boxes of strawberries for $5. That made the choice easier.
Hone your everyday meals around what immediately appeals and what is readily available.
All I can say is YUM, great pictures, must have tasted delicious!
I’m currently in the process of making this. I don’t recommend trying to slice cherry tomatoes with a 12″ butcher knife. *sigh* Maybe some day I’ll get to cut up a cow.
Sharpen the knife.
Looks good! Had salmon here.
I got home from work at 11:45. It took me aproximately 14 minutes to fix my ham, salami, peporoni, swiss, colbyjack on toasted white with Italian dressing and a side of chips. A minute for grace and at 12:00:20 Saturday morning I sunk my teeth in. Yes!
There are few things in life as good as meat.
I think the salad looks delicious. I ate the same food as my chickens ate….rice, only mine was warmed and I added a little sugar and cinnamon…. yummy
That salad looks wonderful. A little goat cheese, perhaps, for balance?
I did penance and ate fried fish. (If you’ve eaten my fried fish, you know what I mean.)
We are meat eaters, after all, which is why Friday abstinence is such a good penance. I do enjoy fish, and my wife’s Chinese fish soup is excellent. But it’s no substitute for dead red… ;)
