“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”
- Fulton Sheen

PLEASE subscribe via PayPal if it is useful. Zelle and Wise are better, but PayPal is convenient.
A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

Well, we have a new boss who is flamboyantly gay, but he hasn’t been anything but professional so far. We are rather apprehensive, so I think that is good news at this point.
Hi Father, just returned from lower Bavaria last night. My daughter was married to a German gentleman last week in a small Catholic chapel in the woods circa 1300 A. D. It was marvelous. Also spent 3 days in Austria and went to the home of my ancestors. While they were distant relatives they received us as if we were their own children. Much good food, drink and making new friends.
Both my roommates are gone this weekend so it is most wonderful.
A couple months ago I was looking up again how our ancestors viewed the seasons: according to the reckoning of the Venerable Bede, autumn began on 9 August, according to that of St. Isidore, on 23 August, but in the later Middle Ages the next day, the Feast of St. Bartholomew, was the day typically seen as the beginning of autumn. (But I still have not got round to trying the production of Ben Jonson’s Bartholomew Fair (which I was taught would have been pronounced something like ‘Bartle-mee Fair’) with Boston University students, loaded on YouTube…)
My husband won tickets for the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, so we were able to enjoy a little family trip before our oldest starts school this week. We all had a wonderful time. We also got some long-delayed house projects done. Planning to have grilled cheeseburgers and potato salad later for one last summer “hurrah”.
I wish I liked coffee more. It’s such a bond with other men.
Dr. Peters: There’s always Gin. So much more than just a great breakfast drink.
LOL! Wish I could post Gold Stars awards. That would win one.
Labor Day weekend has been quite relaxing. Rain. Rain. Rain. Peace and quiet. I had a hamburger with my cousin after I closed the shop at 10:30PM, after his children and his Frau were asleep. It’s not often I get two-days off in a row. Today, I had the chance to eat breakfast with my niece. And, I wasn’t being forced to work on a Sunday peddling groceries and making noon-time liquor sales to the after-church crowd either. The days get shorter. Every year I feel a twinge when Summer is over although it is a huge relief. I am looking forward to having down time (2 days off per week) until October. That is when the NFL football becomes more important than Jesus here in real-life Catholic Massachusetts. Around here Sunday becomes the second busiest day of the week; loads of beer and meat sales. It is also when a greater percentage of the EBT crowd begins buying food again; that is, instead of liquor. My hope is to see my brother and possibly get to the ocean before the water turns colder than a penguin on an iceberg.
The last several responses leave me feeling a sycophant is on the loose. Can’t tell which one is guilty. A bit of a mutual admiration society seems to be forming. Most average Catholics from St. Louis don’t relate to Chaminade prodigies. Mutual admiration societies are an extraordinary form of admiration. I’m beginning to think Michael Voris is on to something!!!!
Last Christmas I was, as usual, late on getting a gift for my sister and her husband. She drinks coffee, and he drinks tea. I went online to Mystic Monk and all of their gift packages were sold out. Time was short, so I called. I do not recall the Brother’s name who answered the phone, but after explaining my dilemma, he said he thought he could work something out. He did and they loved it. We had our annual family get-together in Wyoming at the end of June, and as my contribution I thought that I would bring the coffee. I temporarily signed up for the Coffee of the Month because I needed a large volume and it saved the shipping. Now my employee’s enjoy it so much I have kept the coffee coming. If you haven’t tried them, I highly recommend you do.
Peace and God bless.
Well…. I have been a subscriber to Mystic Monk Coffee since before Fr. Z made them mainstream. My wife and I spent a lazy Labor Day, reflecting on recent coffee-related events:
We have two sons. Early 20’s, handsome, smart, talented — you know the type. They are known along the internets as “Cigarson” and “Pipeson.”
Cigarson departed recently to begin a tour as a FOCUS missionary. He took a large stash of Mystic Monk Hermit’s Bold Blend with him. He loves to cook, and enjoys his stove-top espresso. He phoned home on Labor Day, with stories and adventures (many seemed to involve his cooking for large numbers of people).
Pipeson is a seminarian for our diocese. He was home for a short time this summer. “Do you drink coffee now?” I asked, while preparing to pour a cup of freshly brewed Mystic Monk Breakfast Blend. Pipeson admitted that he had started drinking coffee. He began to jibber about the industrial strength brew that the lovely little Filipino Sisters made at college, and then… “MY GOD, THIS IS GOOD!” as he tasted his first sip of Mystic Monk.
Pipeson is now in First Year at a seminary close to the heart of the Dr. Peters.
