Two of my younger brothers have returned to regular Mass attendance and to the Sacraments this year, after being away for many years. Their reasons for being away, I gather, had, in each case, to do more with accedia than with any doctrinal or social quarrel with the Church. Praise God, after some months now, both returns seem to have “took”! This makes me very happy. Thank you, Lord, amen!
Something new was done after Holy Communion at Mass today that seemed so right that I wondered if it was something old. During Holy Communion, there was no hymn, simply the piano playing. After everyone had returned to their pews, while still kneeling, we were called to sing thanksgiving, and we sang this song, http://wiki.answers.com/Q/O_Sacrament_Most_Holy_-_lyrics_of_hymn, all the way through. After this, an extended period of silence.
We’re pregnant!! I’m 46 & our batting average is not the best (.400), but we are hopeful. I am so relieved to have found a Catholic “pro-life only” OB/GYN. The first paper he has you sign is an acknowledgement that his practice will NOT do abortions or sterilizations, nor will he prescribe contraceptives.
My sister’s family started going to Mass and my godson starts CCD and First Holy Communion preparation next week. He is a year behind and they hadn’t been going. I found out they went when we were visiting yesterday and her 4 year old daughter said almost first thing, “We went to church today!” I was starting to worry that I might have to be a pain in the neck, since I am the godmother…but apparently not. I knew my sister knew the right thing to do. It was just a matter of getting started. I’m so happy for them. Deo gratias!
My grandmother survived having an aneurysm, thanks be to God, and to the wonderful brain surgeons at Miami Valley Hospital.
I finally got a decent cover on my translation of part 1 of St. Beatus of Liebana’s Commentary on the Apocalypse (Book of Revelation). This is the part about the seven letters to the seven churches.
I’m about halfway finished on my translation of St. Bede’s commentary on the Valiant Woman part of Proverbs, and making progress on getting Part 2 of the Beatus done.
No new job yet.
Our son and his family completed their move to the east successfully. Our daughter is prepared for her (major) upcoming surgery on Friday. We had our day in court and the other party was found guilty as charged. Prayers for all, I beg, as we move forward with our lives. Thank you.
Successfully completed my first week of classes at Franciscan! I love the professors I have! And, I have met so many good people here. Love it!

My wife found out Friday that we’re expecting. This is our fourth pregnancy in our 5 year marriage. We were both older than your typical couple when we married and sad to say our first three ended in miscarriages. We’re hopeful and ask your prayers for the health and well-being for my wife and the baby.
I am on annual leave next week and returning to the religious community where I already spent a weekend earlier in August, a truly blessed time. Before I leave I hope to have the opportunity to make a good confession. The Lord is good!
Is the congregation’s singing a post-communion hymn new?? It certainly would be new–and quite unwelcome–at the EF high Mass I attend every Sunday. And at the last (daily) OF Mass I attended, there were no hymns and no singing aside from the congregation chanting the vernacular Ordinary and the entrance and communion antiphons, and the celebrant chanting the preface and the proper prayers.

Don’t know how good people consider this news, but I’ll put it out there anyway: I’ve taken the first step to becoming Catholic and asked the nearest priest (I live in the diaspora) for assistance. :)
Here in Sheffield (England) we now have an EF Sunday Mass in one of the parishes on the last Sunday of the month (not great, but it’s a start). Last Sunday the celebrant was a newly ordained priest whose first EF mass it was. I asked him afterwards how he’d got interested and he said that Summorum Pontificum came out just as he was starting seminary ‘so I thought I’d better learn the Latin Mass’. Thank you Pope Benedict once again!
Have had a talk accepted at the ne plus ultra of my academic speciality, along with big cheeses, all of our talks being published after the colloquium. London, here I come. Deo gratias.

Today is the 11th anniversary of the dedication of the cathedral church in my hometown, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles, but I’m not sure that is considered “good news” around these parts. :P

I love reading about couples who are thrilled to discover they are pregnant, and two announcements in one day, thanks be to God.
Praise be to God!!!! My beautiful fiancé and I are going to be married in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN in less than 3 weeks!!! God has blessed me greatly by bringing her into my life and we hope to have lots of kids. Please pray for us as we prepare for the sacrament of Holy Matrimony on 21 September.
Ps. If you are discerning a vocation to the priesthood or religious life, or if you just can’t seem to find who God is calling you to marry, be patient. God has a plan specifically for your life and it is written in His time, not yours.
Heard Sunday that our parish (Prince of Peace Lewiston ME) is adding a Mass for 1st. Saturday, starting this Saturday, 7 AM at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in the downstairs chapel. Mass will be in the Extraordinary Form and is being offered by a priest of the Fraternity of St. Philip Neri. Brick by brick!

inara: Oh, congrats, I didn’t see your post until now! Don’t worry. A 46 y/o friend of a friend of mine had strange stomach pains, messed up bleedings and fatigue. She thought she was either entering menopause or that she was seriously ill. Her gynecologist just looked at the US-screen and smiled. The couple had a healty child seven months later… I will pray for you :-)
