28 Oct – Manhattan, NYC – Pontifical Mass, Conference on Bl. Karl of Austria

The last Pontifical Solemn Mass and Conference in the series on Blessed Karl of Austria is today. Kudos to the Traditional Knights of Columbus Councils for organizing this series of events.

By the way, for your Brick by Brick file, I am happy to report I played a role in helping these councils get together).  But I digress.

If you have not been able to attend any of the other events in this series and are in the New York area, try to get to Holy Innocents for the Mass this evening (see the attached flyer).

His Excellency, Dom Teodoro de Faria will celebrate at the Faldstool for the Feast of Ss. Simon and Jude. My good friend, Fr. George Rutler, is preaching at the Mass. The choir will sing a setting of the Ordinary by Josef Rheinberger. The Conference on Blessed Karl in the Church Hall will be followed by a reception with refreshments.

I very much wish could be there!

I wish I could be there! I heard Blessed Charles’ grandson speak at the invitation of the Canadian Association for the Beatification of Zita, Charles’ wife. He spoke tellingly of the heritage of public service, and of family left, left to him by his grandparents. It was interesting to hear that when Zita had to flee Belgium because of the Nazis hatred of her, she chose Quebec for her family, as a place of high culture and education.

I find it interesting that the son of Blessed Karl Von Habsburg, Otto, died on Independence Day (July 4th), 2011. One of Blessed Karl’s great-grandsons, Imre, married an American, Kathleen Walker, September of 2012. They met 2 years prior at a Mass in Washington, DC , honoring the groom’s saintly great-grandfather. I’ve heard it said that there are no coincidences with God. I would like to think there’s something happening here. What it will be exactly – time will tell.

Mary Immaculate of Lourdes in Newton Upper Falls, MA just had such a Mass:

There are pictures in the bulletin – see link.

Fr. Higgins, the Pastor, has done wonderful things there.

BTW I thought you and your readers might be interested in the Knocking Ceremony that is part of the funeral rites for the Austrian Emperors – here modified a bit for the funeral of Karl’s son, Otto.

The bodies of the Austrian emperors are buried in the Capuchin Church in Vienna. Here Otto’s coffin is being brought to the Church to be placed with his ancestors. The ceremony is quite moving: Sic transit gloria mundi.

Apropos, another great-grandson of Karl of Austria, Archduke Christian, married in Nancy, France last December. They met very young at a Catholic school and are both under 25! Bl Karl must be glad. Have a look: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/31/austria-royal-wedding-photos_n_2389326.html

VexillaRegis — I think the “Great Monarch” of Catholic Prophecy will be one of the Habsburg’s. The saints say he will rise out of France though not necessarily French in the strictest sense. Interesting times we live in.
