This morning early we went to San Marco, the old Dominican convent with the cells painted by Beato Angelico.
It was great to be there before the hoards arrived. We had the place to our selves.
It is always moving to turn up the stair case and see the Annunciation.
I stood in front of her for about 10 minutes and came to a new conclusion.
We are now on the way to the seminary of the Institute of Christ the King where I will say Mass for the group.

The Cantinetta dei Verrazzano in the via del tavolini (sidestreet of the road between the Duomo and the Palazzo Vecchio) had the most amazing chocolate cake last time I was there. That alone would be reason enough to want to go to Florence, but of course it’s neither the only nor the best one.

Obviously, the “proper” viewing of this painting is from a staircase, rising to it. It is an uplifting image.
So often, we have seen these paintings but have never seen them in context. Context. Context. Context. How often have we had to fight a battle of a gospel verse take out of context. Similarly we need to understand it’s context too.

ICRSS celebrated the first EF Mass I ever saw (on EWTN September 14, 2009) — it was so beautiful and reverent, it made a *major change* in my life.
Please let them know that someone in So. Cal. daily asks Blessed John Henry Newman to pray for many spiritual and temporal blessings for the Institute!

To me it seemed that her Fiat opened the stairway to heaven,
So apropos at the top of the stairs and beyond the door.
There is only one path up and the doors will open,
as they opened before this image when she opened her womb to God’s Will.
So, too, must we open ourselves to God’s Will if we will reach heaven.

Yes! Definitely the UNabridged version of the “Mystical City of God.” The most important parts for me are the instructions Our Lady gives to Venerable Mary (and those reading her) after every chapter. We can share with the author the grace of having the Blessed Virgin Mary as a personal spiritual director.

I read the unabridged first and could not put it down!! I immediately bought the unabridged to get more details!

Fr. Z, with all the contentions going on at another post right now, I am (and I think there must be others) in need of thoughts above the temporal noise. Would you Please give us at least a hint about your new conclusion or a meditation that serves?
I forgot that it is the dead of night for you right now and that you are limited by a travel schedule and technology issues. But when you can, Father, some of us feel very intellectually/spiritually stone-laden. I am looking for even a crust of bread.
