Fr. Z asks your help for someone you know: Daniel Mitsui

I have written from time to time about the artist Daniel Mitsui.

First, right now, say a prayer for him and his family.

I now ask you to visit his online shop for reasons that will be obvious.  HERE

I read this on his blog.  HERE

My daughter, Alma Hildegard Mitsui, was born at 7:14 on Wednesday, 25 September. She is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and will likely remain there for a long time. She was born at 25 weeks and 4 days gestational age, and weighed 1 pound and 7 ounces. Please pray for her survival and health.

In your charity, consider ordering a piece of art from him, to help the family. You might have it framed and give it to your parish priest, if you don’t put on your own wall. I have one on mine and I have one outside my door in the hallway.

UPDATE:

Ooo.. I just saw his St. Joan of Arc for the first time.

And here is his Four Last Things!

And I very much want a set of his Stations of the Cross for my future chapel!  HERE

  1. Fr. A.M. says:

I will remember this intention in my Holy Mass this evening.

  2. Supertradmum says:

Lovely work and so sad about the baby-prayer is all I can do and offering up some of my own suffering. God bless the entire family.

  3. Anchorite says:

Aesthetic discussions of his art aside, Daniel Mitsui has made a conscious (and courageous) effort to make a living as an artist particularly devoted to the revival of the sacred arts and their quality. As such he lives off the fruits of his hands that are now obviously less free as he and his wife take care of Alma and their other two kids(not to mention the impending hospital expenses that family is likely to incur). It is thus very important that readers come together and consider even small purchases to help out one of the few full-time sacred artists out there.

That is beautiful Fr. Z! Where’d you get it? [Check out the links at the top entry!]

I want a copy too. Where did you get such a beautiful picture of Joan of Arc?

I received an email from him a few weeks ago, explaining his current family situation, and did exactly what you suggest now (ordered a print for my pastor) about two weeks or so ago. His work is fantastic, and he was so accommodating when I was pretty late in the game ordering a print two months back for my son’s birthday. I’ve been praying for his family since that email, and thank you for the news so I can focus my prayers on the updated situation.

Prayers for Our Lady for Daniel and his family, especially little Alma to Our Lady.

The Christ in Majesty, with the red and gold added to the monochrome black and white, is beautiful, as is all the rest of his work.

I will try to help in some way.

Just bought my Adoration by the Magi print. Thanks Father Z, I would love for you to give us more links to Tradition Catholic Artists… I hope and pray for his family’s well being.

Also, my brother loves the Mystic Monk Coffee.

    Thanks for what you do.

  9. Diane at Te Deum Laudamus says:

    Prayers.

  10. Elizabeth D says:

There is something I would love to commission him for but I do not have the money. I think what he is doing is quite precious and we need more like him. As far as I can see art is in a horrible state.

Have you seen the print of the Joyful Mysteries, where an angel carries the train of the Virgin as she is greeted by Elizabeth? Too wonderful! (Prayers for Alma and the family, of course!)
