  1. Midwest St. Michael says:

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May
the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

I prayed daily for Mrs. Hitchcock and her Adoremus apostolate. She did excellent work there.

Sad news. She was a key influence in liturgical reform – for the better!

  6. JBS says:

It seemed her noble efforts came to be eclipsed by liturgical bloggers and by implementation of Summorum Pontificum. Then came the advent of the non-liturgical papacy. Consequently, intelligent discussion in print about the future of the reformed Roman Mass just seems pointless today. However, that discussion must be revived for the Church to survive, and hopefully Helen Hitchcock’s legacy will then bear fruit. May she rest in peace, and may her efforts experience an early resurrection.

  7. JBS: “Then came the advent of the non-liturgical papacy. Consequently, intelligent discussion in print about the future of the reformed Roman Mass just seems pointless today.”

On the other hand, I wonder whether–especially with the advent of a non-liturgical papacy–intelligent discussion in print about the future of the reformed Roman Mass might be even more needed. And the legacy of Helen Hull Hitchcock (RIP) still more pertinent.

Helen was a delightful woman. She spoke at Holy Ghost on the Sacred Liturgy two times. May she rest in peace!

This is a shock! Does anyone know how she passed away? I’ve had a number of occasions to be in touch with Mrs. Hitchcock over the past 20 or 30 years (I’ve forgotten when I first had contact with her or Adoremus). She seemed the happy warrior to me, as well as being completely on the ball. May she rest in peace, and may James, her widowed husband, find consolation!

  13. Arele says:

Helen was gracious enough to take my phone calls to her when I was a new Catholic about 4 years ago, and when we got a new Archbishop here in Western Oregon – Archbishop Sample. She and Sample were good friends, and we are very fortunate here in Oregon to have him. Adoremus has helped me much, and my husband and I say a daily prayer from Adoremus – part of the Novena for the Renewal of the Sacred Liturgy.

She has had a profound impact on me as a Catholic and helped me tremendously at a time when my faith was fragile.

    May God rest her soul.
