I had a note from a priest reader today about the progress the Wyoming Carmelites are making with the building of their new monastery. HERE
I thought you might appreciate a little note about the Carmelite Monastery in the works in WY — whose coffee you so dutifully promote.
Their plans are well under way, and should be extraordinary when finished. The monks themselves continue to assist in the work of construction, especially the stone masonry. I have attached a few pictures below to see the current state of things. It’s amazing to think that so much has been built in just over a year. I believe they are hoping to be finished in a little over three years. They are working to have a true monastic enclosure and site — and this is a very well thought-out plan.
They’ve also said that their coffee sales have gone a large way to paying off their expenses — especially all the stone they’ll be using. They were grateful for your support.
They are a holy, joyful and hard-working group of monks, and it seems the Lord is calling them to great things. I have little doubt that their monastery will be a pilgrim destination for a long, long time.

I know a young man from a local parish who joined these brothers last year. I had the privilege of sitting in a Bible study with him. His knowledge of the faith and commitment at 18 years old was simply inspiring! He was the one who turned us on to the coffee, and that is the only coffee my wife and I will buy now. We take orders from family and friends too whenever we order and get free shipping delivered fast to our door! :)
I have been watching them for years–since I read an article about these men who had dreams. It was illustrated with a photo of a robed monk driving a tractor. I watched as they searched for property–were disappointed when one was bought out from under them. But then they found the awesome acreage that they were meant to own. And of course, I get a monthly shipment of coffee–currently Coffee of the Month.
When I was still in school for my MBA about five years ago, one of our classes actually used the Carmelite monks in Wyoming and their desire to build a monastery by selling coffee as a case study. That was the first time that I had ever heard of Mystic Monk Coffee. It’s nice to see that they are making real progress towards that goal.
If it makes you feel better, it’s never really a J in Latin. It is always an I with a nice distinctive tail, so you don’t confuse it with the uprights of an N or M. (Obviously unnecessary in this case, but decorative still.)
[That’s one way to look at it, I suppose. That doesn’t apply here, but it’s agile!]
Wow, those pictures are amazing! I pretty much only buy Mystic Monk coffee now. A friend of mine has a brother in that monastery. May God bless those monks and may they be a light to all.

I’d just like to note that the building which looks like a church is NOT the church. This is their chapter house. They are in process of laying the foundation for the church right now — well ahead of schedule! These are holy men who deserve all the support you can give them.

It should also be mentioned that for the month of August they have Butterscotch Cream as their specialty flavor. I got mine in the mail three days ago and just (as in two minutes ago) finished a cup. It is ……..mmmmmmmmm.
Coffee heaven!
Seriously, it’s awesome. I love whenever I get their coffee I open the box and am always hit by the smell of coffee and candy bars (I like the flavored stuff!). Also, don’t forget that they sell sampler packs! I just picked up a dark roast sampler pack to give some away to friends. I’m trying to convert as many people as possible to MM coffee because (a) it helps the monks, and (b) it is, hands down, the best coffee I’ve ever had. Who I earth could go back to drinking the Starbucks sludge after enjoying MM brew? I contend the answer is: No one.

Father, you just need to get with the times and be moved by the spirit of Latin 2. Everyone knows that if you use an ‘i’ to spell ‘Ioannes’, well, it’s obvious you hate Latin.
I’ve never been to Wyoming, but these monks certainly make me consider the trip.
Every time I come across mention of this community it lifts my heart. How I wish such a faithful contemplative community in the Carmelite tradition had existed years back when I was discerning a vocation. It was not to be.

God reward each one of them, and may this community flourish to the glory of God.
