For various reasons I had to demur, but at one point I was to be deacon for this.
This is how they do it in Minneapolis, friends.
Not too bad, all in all. A worthy observance of Gaudete Sunday.
I hate to send anyone to Facebook – blech – but there are more photos there.
I took one look at that picture and whispered, “Wow.”
Both the Archbishop and the Auxiliary Bishop were present as well.
[A great occasion.]
Not one, but four…four…rose copes! Wow!!!
The happiest ‘wow’ to me is in observing the age of everyone surrounding the cardinal.
What is the reason for the servers to wear copes?
SumusResNovarum asks for the reason for the copes on the servers.
Those 4 are the personal attendants to the bishop, (in this case Cardinal). They are not the main servers of the Mass. They attend him primarily at the throne. Respectively, they bear his mitre, his crozier, the book and the bugia (candle for him to read by) The two Archdeacons (on the ouside) also are there as his personal attendants. The two immediately at his shoulders wearing maniples are the deacon and subdeacon of the Mass. (The one at his right shoulder is Fr. John Brancich of the Fraternity of St. Peter.)
