Time. We all have a short time in this world. How much time do we give to things and how much to God?
“What did you come here to see?” If you came for a choir or great homily or priest-as-entertainer, you’re not getting the whole point or benefit of participation in the Holy Sacrifice.
Father preached about sin! All of us are sinners whether we believe it or not. This is why we suffer.
After Mass, I thanked him for saying Mass, as I always do, and mentioned that I’ve been Catholic for 20 yrs. and this is the first homily I’ve heard on sin. He laughed; maybe he was embarrassed.
Gloria, Gloria.
We are occasionally fortunate to have one of our permanent Deacons assist Father at the 06:45 Mass.
Yesterday, commenting on how Mark gets to the point, our Deacon stressed that time is passing and our duty to prepare ourselves, and the way, is pressing. Concise and focused . Now, if we could only be blessed with a traditional Mass in Latin!
Advent is about repentance (Greek Metanoia) which is a change of mind that leads to a change of life. Without an actual change of our lives it is no change at all.
Our pastor talked about how we are being called to the Lord daily, and to recognize that the people in our lives that are that voice of John the Baptist for us. He then challenged us to call out to people like the John the Baptist and to spend the rest of Advent praying for person that is lost and personally invite them to church.
Sorry to say, it was not a very good weekend for preaching.
