Sant’ Andrea della Valle, my favorite church in Rome:

    1. The first church I ever visited my first time in Rome. (I was staying at the Albergo Tiziano just down the street.)

    2. Final resting place of Pope Pius II (Eneas Silvius Piccolimini), a great Latin stylist and one of Fr Reggie Foster’s favorite popes (and, IIRC, the pope who canonized St Catherine of Siena).

    3. The setting for Act I of Puccini’s Tosca, one of my favorite operas.

  2. Sid Cundiff in NC says:

This church is for pilasters what Santa Maria in Campitelli is for columns — a virtual forest of them.
