ACTION ITEM! MUST SHARE! DO YOUR PART! In Chicago – “Save the Latin Mass Campaign”

MUST SHARE! DO YOUR PART!

You might remember Cupich’s fawning comments about Traditionis custodes.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuesday, November 16th

The Coalition for Canceled Priests in conjunction with the Lepanto Institute and Regina Magazine has launched Save the Latin Mass in Chicago. The rollout of this initiative on Sunday involved visits by two highly visible mobile billboard trucks to Holy Name Cathedral, which is the home parish of Cardinal Cupich, as well as Holy Trinity, St. Stanislaus Kostka, St. Mary of the Angels and St. John Cantius parishes, and raised awareness about the growing crackdown on the form of worship practiced by most of the saints throughout the history of the Church.

CCFP Chair Fr. John Lovell states, “The Coalition stands side by side with The Lepanto Institute and Regina Magazine in our commitment to defend The Traditional Latin Mass and the priests who celebrate it. We encourage priests to learn the ancient Roman Rite. We’re thrilled to report that the campaign is receiving overwhelming support as we take it from Chicago to the USCCB in Baltimore.”

In the wake of the pope’s recent Motu Proprio, “Traditionis Custodes”, several US bishops are implementing a series of increasingly severe restrictions on the Traditional Latin Mass, with the ultimate goal of eradicating it completely. In response, Catholic laity from around the US have united in a shared mission to preserve the Mass of the Ages. Empowered by Canon 212, we have a right and a duty to inform our church leaders when they are in error.

Many of the priests who celebrate the TLM are now under pressure and in fear of being removed from their active roles as priests. The Coalition for Canceled Priests stands publicly in their defense, assuring them that the Catholic faithful are and will remain solidly behind them.

The Save the Latin Mass campaign will now move to other cities, making it clear to aggressive bishops that Catholics have had enough. Coupled with the successful Not One More Penny! billboard campaign, we are showing the bishops and the world that we will allow neither our holy priests nor the Mass in its timeless form to be taken from us.

The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with enthusiastic responses from Mass goers and many others encountered in the broader community. The social media response and contributions to our new crowdfunding campaign are growing. There have been many requests to bring the campaign to other locations around the country.

Interesting, because one of the staunchest friends of the Latin Mass is also in Chicago. I wonder if Bp. Perry is making his retirement plans already…

  3. Kathleen10 says:

Excellent! Comes a time when being a silent victim becomes intolerable and as long as you have a pulse you realize action is required. That applies here, as well as to other tyrannical diktats. Speak up and be part of the solution! It is always said bullies are in fact the worst cowards. These people have no idea what pushback is. We need to show them.

  5. Colm says:

The CCFP will do more harm than good. They held a crazy rally in Chicago recently, and are the sort that gives “trads” a bad name. This will give those like Cupich the ammunition they need. They should simply just butt out.

  6. Dave P. says:

The correct website for Canceled Priests is http://www.canceledpriests.org . Thanks!

  7. iamlucky13 says:

While I appreciate seeing people concerned enough to take action, I have to admit to some concern that using a photo of Cardinal Cupich looking grumpy is not going to inspire any sympathy on his part.

All the best to our friends in Chicago, but please be careful to be tactful lest the message backfire.

  8. ProfessorCover says:

Interestingly enough, I sometimes listen to the sermon via the internet from Saint John Cantius. This past Sunday the priest made it a point disassociate his parish from the campaign and to defend Cardinal Cupich because he is supportive of what they are doing and appreciates what they are doing. I got the impression that the campaign might be putting them in a difficult situation.

[I, too, wondered if the Canons were asked about having this in front of their place.]

  9. Prayerful says:

I have to wonder a little about the design. Anyone who pays it a slight bit of attention will just see what appears to be stalwart traditional priest with biretta. Even in Chicago a good many, if not most won’t know what +Cupich looks like. It’s like don’t take the old Mass from this poor priest.

    [I had a similar thought.]

  10. Not says:

Traditionalist have always been the most generous in tithing and volunteering to support the Church. Latin Mass communities are thriving with all ages.
Only a fool or a socialist would try to destroy this????

  11. Madzi says:

Respect…but resist. No one gains with insults but resistance is critical. Persecution must be named and when spotted–as in the cardinal’s recent remarks–called out for what it is.
If I had been in charge of the billboard for this it would have been reworded (without the visage of Cupich at all): Free the Latin Mass.

  12. Archlaic says:

I agree on the need for vigorous, public action to publicize the “struggle” for the TLM and the level of desire/demand that currently exists, but I am also amongst those who wonders about the wisdom of poking Cupich in the snout given that there are undoubteldy some very complex – and probably delicate – relationships between the Institute and the Canons on one hand and the Archdiocese and the person of the Cardinal Archhbishop himself on the other.

I expressed my concerns publicly – including (I believe) in this blog’s combox – at the time of Traditionis Perditores that the MP might be a gambit by PF to elicit intemperate and unseemly responses from “rad-trads” which would then be adduced as justification for both the original MP and future repressive actions. Methinks we must be as wise as serpents… and as crafty as foxes!

  13. roma247 says:

Agree wholeheartedly with the other commenters here. Our righteousness must abound more than that of the Pharisees, and ad hominem attacks like this are no way to win a spiritual battle.

The whole [ostensible] reason why PF and crew instituted TC in the first place is because they think those attached to the “Old Mass” are a bunch of cranks. What a great way to walk right into that tangle trap.

The intentions behind this initiative are of course very good, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. As the other commenters also pointed out, the CFCP lost a lot of support through mission drift and going after Cupich, instead of focusing on showing that they knew how to competently address the issues at hand. Obviously they still haven’t learned their lesson. So unfortunate, as both these are initiatives I would like to be able to support, but I won’t be associated with these sort of tactics.

We need to find a way to defend ourselves that makes our side look so attractive that not only do they not want to crush us; they want to join us…

  14. Dan says:

It would be nice if one of these trucks were in Baltimore right now.

  15. JesusFreak84 says:

The ICKSP’s US HQ is in Chicago, too. Glad these people avoided them. Then again, they might have gotten wind of it and said to stay away. Then again-again, SJC tends to walk on eggshells in their sermons, in general, more than the ICKSP does.

  16. Ave Maria says:

All of these pushbacks are not going to register much on the hard hearts of those in the hierarchy who have a very decided dislike of the TLM. This battle will be fought on our knees and also very likely on “mass rocks” because the TLM is never going away and has many new adherents to it now.

  17. Why a picture of a liberal? Why not a picture of the utter glory of a Solemn High TLM? That’s what’s going to snag the attention of the world; beauty appeals to the very nature of man.

Racism – true racism, that ended in the social rights movements of the sixties – was rooted in these false perceptions; i.e. white men not seeing black men for what they are – human. This ‘not seeing something for what it is’ is at the heart of every discrimination, be it racism, abortion, TC, what have you. How it it fixed? By showing what is true to the misled. That is a major factor in dissuading abortions: mothers seeing their children in an ultrasound. I say, to most effectively combat this discrimination against tradition, we must show the beauties of tradition to the misled!

Today’s world is infatuated with the Media. It is my belief that a mass traditionalist movement of multimedia production and distribution would be the most effective weapon against prejudice and ignorance. Flooding the internet with beautiful pictures, videos, music, and the like is something that will get all sorts of people asking questions.

In light of my above comments, that’s why the electric billboard trucks is such a genius idea! The people who will be seeing them are the people who are not on their phones – people who are more in touch with reality when the truck passes before their eyes. Again, I stress the effectiveness of putting glorious pictures on there – glorious and beautiful images are going to grab more attention than Cardinal Cupich or black-and-white “Latin Mass”. (think about it… only a tiny percentage of the population would recognize what’s being talked about when they see Cardinal Cupich and “Latin Mass”)

  18. JT says:

The Church Militant “in your face” approach rarely works. Betting Card. Cupich digs in his heels.

  19. MamaKid says:

Kathleen10 hit the nail on the head: these overreaching bishops are mere bullies that no one has ever pushed back against. As most people learn early in life, failure to push back only encourages bullies to become bolder. I am very disappointed to see – here of all places – comments that show exactly why the bullies feel so empowered to advance their reign of terror. Stand on your convictions with your fellow Catholics, gentlemen, instead of sniping at each other. Either you believe the Latin Mass and authentic Catholic teaching is our legitimate birthright as children of Christ the King, or else you have settled for the bishop’s mess of pottage – that the Faith is a mere preference we have no right to ask for.

  20. Interested in seeing a video of the digital mobile billboard we brought to the USCCB Fall General Assembly in Baltimore? The Save the Latin Mass campaign visited the gathering of bishops at the Marriott Waterfront on November 16. We presented a beautiful image of the Latin Mass with the message “GOD SAVE THE TRADITIONAL LATIN MASS” and “SaveTheLatinMass.org” at the main entrance to the event and at other locations in the area throughout the entire day. I hope traditional Catholics find this encouraging. Thanks to the deluge of subscriptions and donations along with the growing support from leaders in the traditional Catholic world, there’s much more to come. Join us in our efforts to save the Latin Mass! We’re listening. We ask for your prayers for our Church and for our campaign and welcome subscriptions and donations at our website. https://SaveTheLatinMass.org .
