    The bronze head of Medusa from the head of a wooden beam of the first of the ships of Nemi, discovered in 1895 by Eliseo Borghi, taken to be an apotropaic Gorgoneion by Sarah Wolfmayr-Dobrowsky in her 2009 thesis, handily linked in the “Nemi ships” Wikipedia article: now in the the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme. (She does not have a lot to say about the little wings, which are something I have somehow failed to notice in some Medusa/Gorgon head depictions – nor do I recall or readily find anything about winged gorgons…)
