Today, 50 years ago, was Game 3 of the Spassky-Fischer Match. The score was 2-1 Spassky.
The other day, Fischer failed to show for the game and forfeited, Game 2.
On 15 July Fischer was still massively complaining about the sound of cameras. There were various contracts signed. Fisher had made at least three flight reservations to leave.
Spassky agreed to play in the ping-pong room. Fischer still bitched about various things, pretty much constantly. He would gripe about boards, saying that the squares had to be reduced from 2.25 inches to 2.125 inches.
Fisher, 10 minutes late, won this with black game in 41 moves. The Benoni was on the board.
Today, I received a super cool “travel” chess board from a reader. There was no slip so I don’t know who you are. It very cool and I am tempted to take it on a trip this next week to a priests’ conference. Thank you.
