Your Sunday Sermon Notes – QUINQUAGESIMA Sunday (N.O.: 7th Ord) 2023

We are in violet this Sunday, as Pre-Lent continues in the traditional Roman Rite.

Too many people today are without good, strong preaching, to the detriment of all. Share the good stuff.

It is the 7th Sunday of Ordinary Time in the Novus Ordo and Quinquagesima in the Vetus Ordo.  Such confusion.  All so unnecessary.

Was there a GOOD point made in the sermon you heard at your Sunday Mass of obligation?

Tell about attendance especially for the Traditional Latin Mass.  I hear that it is growing.  Of COURSE.

Any local changes or (hopefully good) news?

I have a few thoughts about the orations in the Vetus Ordo for Quinquagesima: HERE

Here’s a poll.  Anyone can vote, but only registered and approved participants can comment.  ALL comments are moderated.

Keep in mind that Septuagesima could fall as early as 18 January, which would overlap with the 3rd Sunday of Ordinary Time.

Even if it meant suppressing the "Sunday of the Bible" (3rd Ordinary Sunday) should the Pre-Lent Sundays be reinstated in the Novus Ordo?

Yes Father I would say it should be. We have one Lent a year. One. Not preparing well in advance is something I am guilty of and for the NO it’s must be reinstated.

Good homily on the challenges of the beatitudes (as opposed to just being fortune-cookie platitudes). Father also covered the burying of the alleluias.

Went St Anne Church San Diego TLM. Church packed, at least 250 plus overflow and cry room. Many young folks and a lot of children also. This was my first TLM in person as I am not yet Catholic but feel called to convert especially after yesterday. People were so friendly and welcoming! Just a joyful moment.

Beautiful 9am High Mass at the Franciscan Monastery in DC, about 140 in attendance (many from Old St. Mary’s) if you’re in DC this is the Latin Mass to attend. Father linked the last three Sunday liturgies with their Roman stations (hellfire and St. Lawrence, Doctor of the Gentiles and Basilica of St. Paul, and the chains of sin and St. Peter’s) and noted those three alarm bells alert us to the coming time of fasting alms and prayer.
