ROME 23/10 – Day 23: Cheery and bright

Sunrise: 07:29.  Sunset: 18:19.  Ave Maria:  18:30

It is the Feast of St. John Capistrano.  Also, in the “aliquibus” section there is a Mass today for the veneration of Christ called “Nazareno” which originated in Rome among the Trinitarians at San Crisogono and spread around the area.  The parish has an image which lead to the use of the Mass today.

On the way to church.

The red vestments which you dear readers helped to procure.  Thank you.

My flowers were all played out and I wanted something cheery.

An afternoon stroll took me through Piazza Navona.

Some finocchiona for supper.

In the evening I watched a really interested documentary about four women chess players from Georgia

Meanwhile, white to move.  Can you mate in THREE?

NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

    1. Nxe6+ Ke8
    2. Qa8+ Qd8
    3. Qxd8#

Pretty cool how the knight protects the queen on the second one.

It’s a lot of fun to set up the puzzles on chess.com and have the computer play against you. You just go to the Analysis section, set up the board, select who is to move and then click the icon to play against the computer.

  3. Matthew111 says:

mbarry bro is like, “it’s a lot of fun to cheat, yo!”.

This is why AI has ruined academia until electricity is no longer available.

It makes me want to open every chess game I play with something random just to throw algorithms. I’ve seen Magnus do this and it’s one of the reasons why I think he’s probably the best player ever.

  4. mbarry says:

It’s not cheating. It’s called learning. I get immediate feedback when I’m stumped and am able to see moves that I didn’t before.

But go on being yo bad self and home-aloning it. Byatch.

  5. Matthew111 says:

lol, I deserve that. I should change my screen name to BadMacaulay111.

  6. mbarry says:

    :) No sweat.

“My flowers were all played out and I wanted something cheery.”

    This might be so obvious.
Father, your flowers completely compliment the vestments.
