Here’s a big surprise.  In Samarkand, Magnus won his 17th World Championship title – by winning both Rapid and Blitz.   Despite all his victories, a couple of losses cost him 1.1 rating points.  When you are at the nosebleed height of 2887 that’s what happens.  It gets harder to climb and easier to slip back.

Yesterday I posted about the weird draw of Nepo and Dubov, the odd Knight Dance.  They were charged with forfeits for that stunt, costing them .5 point.  As it turns out Dubov finished .5 behind Magnus.

Choices have consequences.

I saw this on the twitter of lichess… funny.  So true.  Well… not for me.  I’d have to adjust back a couple hours.

Today in my “stream” I read a little bit from the co-penned book by Benedict XVI and Card. Sarah, From the Depths of our Hearts and added some commentsIt’s the anniversary of the death of Benedict XVI so I thought it would be a good idea.

White to move and mate in 4.  (Not too hard.)

NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

Methinks, at least I demonstrated my ability to count that time.

Is a lichess the wife of a lich? It looks like a chess thing after I googled it but I’d prefer the former.

I bet Dubov would have lost; that game with Nepov probably put him closer to Magnus. PLOT TWIST.
