Notes From The Underground?

I saw this at Twitter/X.  These home chapels are more Catholic than a lot of post-Conciliar churches.

Are you doing anything?

Today I received a note from a donor:

I just now received the first part of the home chapel: reversible green/white chasuble, stole, maniple, burse and veil. Towels and alb next, I think. The real challenge is going to be the relic.

I had a little building constructed after the covid shut down. (I’m on acreage so there was room.) It’s small, but the double door opens wide so if there are more people than will fit (and the weather allows) there can be a crowd outside.

Since this is 2024 and not 1970, how many bishops will protect the needs of their flocks and not submit to a draconian dictate ?

I visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Champion near Green Bay this year with a few friends. We did the Walk to Mary. I had no idea that Catholics in that area years ago (many were of Belgium descent) constructed small road chapels on various routes. Interesting piece of history. I think San Antonio was the first place I remember living as a teenager that had several Catholic Churches.

This is something similar to what I would love to do when I’m finally able to move out of Marxifornia to a new state. I want to turn a small bedroom into a chapel/mini-shrine/library. For the time being, by my front door, I have a tiny holy water bowl, a wooden crucifix from Jerusalem, statues of St Michael and St Rocco, a porcelain replica of the chapel at Villanova University (my alma mater, and Thomas being my confirmation name), a brass shield with images and the quote from Ephesians 6, a photo of my parents (RIP), the ashes of my dog Max (RIP) and fur from my dog Luna (RIP), holy cards with medals of St Benedict, St JPII, and Mother Angelica with the infant Jesus medal.

When I move, I’ll have all this and more in a small room with photos of JPII and B16, large photos of the Shroud of Turin (regular image and negative image), and a kneeler… plus my bookcases loaded with books, and a comfy sitting chair with an end table and lamp.
