Talks continued today. A friend of mine, retired chaplain, Navy Captain, remarked “Coming to the conference would have been worth it for this talk alone.” I agreed.
We had an excursion to the new building of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology next to the Franciscan University in Steubenville.
The building has three stores, came in on budget and on schedule! Surely a sign that Someone likes this project. The space is bright and roomy, hi tech, thoughtfully laid out. And there is a tantalizing bookstore, as there is at the conference.
I liked this shelf. Timely!
Scott staying hello to the first wave.
More books, but from the conference tables, not the Center store.
Scott holding the final draft of the new study Bible they’ve been working on since 1998, with something like 18K notes.
Books… right click to enlarge in a new tab.
The conference room
Outside my door this morning, a rat with hooves.
At the University. It was nice to see “normal” trees and see “normal birds”.
More on the talk in a bit.

Father, if you are in Steubenville this week, you should head over to Catholic Family Land just to the west (near Bloomingdale, OH) next week for Holy Family Fest #5! I am sure they would love to have another priest there for the week to help hear confessions! https://afc.org/catholic-family-vacation/
If you want to attend and there are any costs involved, I am willing to cover them for you.
Why aren’t they using the new St. Paul Center for the conference venue?
Glad you are having a great time! I have been waiting for the book photos so I can add to my ever-growing reading list.
I’ve ordered the new study bible. It’s suppose to be available in November. I already have his New Testament study bible and find it invaluable!
Does that rat with hooves have an absolutely full stomach, or is it expecting? (Too late in the year for the latter.)
It strikes me that C.S. Lewis’s veiled references to sexual disorders, in That Hideous Strength, being the downfall of society on the Moon, were amazingly prescient. It’s like he could see that when you pull the rug out from under any human nature as the basis for morality, there is a free fall to perversions and distortions with no end in sight.
Thank you, Father, for sharing.
My kids and I are curious, though…what kind of trees and birds do you usually see to make the comment about the “normal trees and birds”?
The rat with hooves is quartering away. Sssss-THWOCK!
For TonyO,
My DVM daughter suggests chronic wasting disease, but it could several other things. Her reaction to the photo was”Oh my!”
Clearly she is sick.
SevensDad – same!
Conference looks great Fr Z!
Are conferences like these open to laity?
Rats with hooves?
huh
interesting perspective.
