On this my last full day in Rome the sun rose at 06:53. It set at 16:55.
They are still screwing up the Ave Maria Bell on the calendar. Telling.
Thank you, Lord, for this day. Thank you for tomorrow.
The Feast of St. Martin is heavily laden with remembrance and anticipation, past losses and a new season.
Today is mostly packing and shifting things which remain here to a safe place. It is lovely day, but alas I am inside. Later in the evening, when I had my chores done, I wanted a walk and a bite out. That didn’t happen. I’m too tired.

In chessy news…
(It’s white’s move. Mate in 2.)
A glimpse into my Roman morning details. The little slip has the day’s Mass intention (which I blotted a little to post).
After White plays 1. Qa1, there is no move Black can make to prevent mate by 2. Qh8++.
Praying for safe traveling for you, Father Z.
Fr. Z:
Have a safe return to the USA.
I hope you are able to visit family members after you return since you wrote about some health issues with them. My mother just turned 87 and mentioned a few days ago that she is glad to still be on earth and able to get around.
Maybe you will be able to return to Rome sometime next year.
November 13. Saint Diego or Didacus is a saint from Spain who died in 1463.
I found 1. Qf1, 2. Qf8#, and I see A.S. Haley has 1. Qa1, 2. Qh8#.
Do both work?
1. Qa1 threatens Qh8# So that works for mate in 2.
1. Qf1 threatens to bring the Q to the 7th. But it’ll take another move. Black has a6 or c6 and the King has d8 when the Queen comes to visit. It’ll take 3 instead of 2.
