Many thanks to anyone who has sent an item from my wishlist. I try to send a note, when I am able. Amazon has made it harder to do that. Sometimes, they don’t include gift slips. Once, the slips had an email. Now they have a Q code, which doesn’t lead to a page where you can send a note. If I have not had an email or registration from you, I am stuck.
Hence, today, thanks to KS for the nice comments about the ADVENTCAzTs and for the reliquary. I will put your name on the base underneath so I will remember you.
Just to help you keep perspective on who is naughty and who is nice.
Special Christmas present from the Vatican (Cardinals Roche and Viola)- it was announced that the popular 1:30 pm Latin Mass at St. Anthonys in El Segundo, CA, which drew Catholics from all over Los Angeles. will end in 2025.
Please pray for an end to Latin Mass restrictions-… pic.twitter.com/zsXpsCdKsi

White BLACK to move and mate in 2. How fast did you find it?
Whiteto move and mate in 2. How fast did you find it? UPDATE: UGH… obviously BLACK. Look at the board.[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]
The hostility is rife. I have words for them but I shall keep it to myself. I’d love to meet them.
Christmas Day Mass at our NO Parish was about 30%-40% Latin thankfully, and as the Vatican II Council Fathers intended.
I understand the Vatican itself being aggressively down on TLM: its current temporal lord and master hates it (and dislikes the people who love it). What I cannot understand is bishops who otherwise have pretty good, sensible heads on their shoulders, going along with Francis’s agenda on TLM. Any good bishop, or even fair-to-middling bishop, should easily see that having one or several TLMs in their diocese is generating more vocations AND more contributions per capita than N.O. parishes. And perceptive bishops should by now also have begun to notice the knock-on effect on parishes around a TLM as improvements. So, instead of making TLM more difficult to get, (even, in several cases, more difficult than a simple and straightforward application of Trad. Cust. would demand) you would think that a reasonable bishop would seek to minimize the damage from Trad. Cust. to the extent he could skirt its intent by not applying its requirements in an aggressive manner, but rather to soften it everywhere legally possible. It is just not reasonable – even for a bishop who thinks he is morally required to follow Trad. Cust. – to apply its rules harshly, much less MORE harshly than the simple reading of the stated rules in it.
Especially for an archbishop of a diocese that normally should have had its ordinary raised to the red hat of a cardinal, and one who is just a couple years from mandatory retirement, he knows darn well that there is nothing he can do to curry sufficient favor with PF to be made a cardinal now, and holding out hope for that is an empty wish. There is no room for upward movement, the door to being shoved out is just a step away, there is just no reason to cater to the pope’s foibles and irrational dislikes.
I would also like to understand why bishops who apparently feel it necessary to obey PF’s extraordinarily unreasonable demands in Trad. Cust. why it is that they feel that obligation, but almost none of them have ever bothered to even pretend that they are required to obey the (perfectly reasonable and necessary) requirements John Paul II articulated in Ex Corde Ecclesiae. Is it that they only fear to be caught in disobedience to PF on Trad. Cust., whereas they know perfectly well the Vatican (under JPII, Benedict, and Francis) would never bother to enforce Ex Corde Ecclesiae, even though enforcing it would be far, far more beneficial to the Church than enforcing Trad. Cust. (even if one supposed Trad. Cust. were actually meant to attack a real problem, that is)? If so, what would that say about their characters? (And the Vatican machinery of the last 40 (plus) years?)
I wonder if you meant that Black can mate in two moves. I can’t see white doing so.
