VIDEO: Gavin Ashenden distills the last 12 years or so poignantly and pointedly

I’ve set this to start at almost the 6 minute mark. Set apart a few minutes to watch this.

Does he hit the mark?

Yes he hits the mark. I watched this a couple of times over the since it was released.

He hit the nail on the head!

  3. EAW says:

He’s not off the mark, not even a little bit. Yet, even though he doesn’t mince his words, he manages to remain charitable.

  4. DeeEmm says:

God Bless him! At this point we only can stomach the truth. Any dressing up and white-washing of the last 12 years is quite vomitous, and there is a fair bit of that going around these days.

Spot on. And, if I may so, comforting. Because one thing Francis was good at was making those who care for the authentic Church feel terribly alone. Sometimes to the edge of despair.

Thank you Fr Z for the video.
The Francis Pontificate was a gut punch to many great converts like Gavin.
Bishop Barron wrote an article in First Things. He covers the good, the bad, and the ugly.

He’s correct. At least as far as Francis actions and attitudes go, he’s correct.

Frankly though, I’m pretty disgusted with voices crying foul over Rupnik.
I’m well aware of Rupnik’s crimes. Mr. Ashenden comments about how Francis … failed at consoling the nuns. All right, fair enough. I’m also well aware of other crimes. ..Would Rupnik’s actions have been even a whiff better if he had abused monks? Lay men? Such would have been sinful too. Yet, …academia and a few professions persist in advocating for …permissive… attitudes. I very much wish the Church would warn people: Shape up or shut up.
You cannot legitimately promote vice, then howl when someone acts viciously.
You must be reminded that… sinful behavior is.. sinful behavior. You do have need to desist acting sinfully and repent.

But yes, as far as Francis actions and attitudes go, he’s correct.

He spoke well when he said he felt “relieved” at the Holy Father’s passing. I think that summed up many devout Catholic’s feelings, as frank as it seems.
