St. John Eudes
- Prosper of Aquitaine (+c.455), De gratia Dei et libero arbitrio contra Collatorem 22.61

“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”
- Fulton Sheen

A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

Prayer Before Using The Internet HERE
Almighty and eternal God, who created us in Thine image and bade us to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful, especially in the divine person of Thine Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, that, through the intercession of Saint Isidore, Bishop and Doctor, during our journeys through the internet we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to Thee and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Oh my goodness! Thanks for my best laugh of the day! :-)
Quinto is an amazing actor. Loved him in”Heroes.”
Good clip, thanks!
I knew there was a reason we liked you Father. This seals the deal. ;-)
A rare literal lol. But did you have to use the tag to remind us of these gentlemen’s faults? [?]
Fr., I believe the Obscure one is referring to “This entry was posted in Liberals”
Heh. I haven’t heard the Bilbo song since Dr. Demento.
“Old age and treachery will always beat youth and exuberance.”
– David Mamet
Thanks Fr. Z! That was great!
LOL!
LOVE IT!
(Um, should I have some idea of who Zachary Quinto..IS?)
“I have no ego to bruise.” I would take the Mercedes.
Went to a Star Trek convention: LOVED IT. Heard the Shat–force of nature, possibly not of this world. Nice people, Trekkers, or Trekkies, or whatever. Counselor Troy was there, too: looks no problem. Met Capt. Pike, perhaps most moving of all. Such a wonderful series, really.
On another note, R. I. P., Seamus Heaney, raised a Catholic, possibly lapsed.
I wonder if they had to pay Leonard extra to sing that song again, either that or the man has a great sense of humor and can laugh at himself. Hearing it was quite unexpected and genius.
Heaney died? I have read some of his stuff. He won the Nobel some years ago in poetry. I also have his translation of Beowulf in an audio book form… somewhere in storage. Definitely Catholic and lapsed and pretty angry about it from what I could tell. Irish.
Sorry for my infelicitous phrasing. My intent was to ask why this was “posted in liberals” so as to remind us of these fellows’ faults. They were, after all, quite engaging and funny and not demonstrably liberal for those few moments.
Bah Humbug! I’ll stick with my Honda. You can fit a stand up bass in it and still comfortable fit four people in it.
Fr. Z., ah you do not read my blog. I had the announcement of the great poet’s death on it last week. Sad, but the norm now and has been for some time for Irish poets and novelists to be angry old men concerning the Church. Boring, now. “Tis the times. Still, we have and are losing the best poets. Few to take over the helm…
“Counselor Troy was there, too: looks no problem.”
Not sure what the last part meant; I believe her name is spelled “Troi”, but I could be wrong.
jflare, Mr. Quinto played a very Spock in 2009 in (what I considered enormously entertaining) prequel to the Star Trek series.
darn! Very YOUNG Spock…
OK, I didn’t get the connection with the song about Bilbo. Someone more culturally savvy… Quanah? Help?

HyacinthClare,
In the late 1960s, while Nimoy was trying to parlay his Star Trek fame into a sideline gig as a singer (which musical career did not live long, nor did it prosper), he recorded a goofy, terrible novelty song called “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins”. That’s what he was singing to himself behind the wheel in the commercial. For me, that was the funniest part of the whole thing.
Thank you, everybody! Now I get it! I had never seen that. That makes this twice as funny!

I have pristine copies of both Mr. Spock’s music from Outer Space, and Leonard Nimoy Sings… in vinyl.
That being said, (alert: food fight), most true geeks do not consider the alternate universe Trek to be canonical. We can tell because: 1) non-geeks love it, 2) it is making tons of money. J.J. Abrams wrote a mass-market movie using the Trek characters that would appeal to, basically, anybody. Do you know how many scientist vocations came out of the 1960’s and 1970’s because of the original Star Trek? No vocations from these movies, I’ll bet.
In fact, there are two restorational projects going on to make original universe Trek, again. The first, Star Trek, phase 2, is a continuation of the original five year mission. You can download the episodes, here:

James Cawley does a very good Kirk. Some of the original cast members (Chekov, Sulu, Rand, Tasha Yar (in a different role)) have appeared in the episodes and Majel Roddenberry voiced the computer (so it has recognition by the Roddenberry family). David Gerold (Trouble with Tribbles) wrote an episode. Morally speaking, these are all over the map. They have an episode where they play Amazing Grace, but also an episode showing a homosexual relationship (sadly, the David Gerold episode). The episode with Sulu, however, is very moral and involves self-sacrifice.
The second restorational project involves the holographic Doctor, Chekov, Tuvok, Harry Kim, Jonas Quinn (from Star Gate SG-1). It is called, Star Trek: Renegades:

Wow! Talk about how make-up and dress make a difference! I have a copy of the “Star Trek reboot” movie–I like it quite a little, actually. ..But I didn’t recognize the fellow in this clip at all.
