    TLM 29 June: Peabody, MA

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULA — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 11:56 am

On the same day that Holy Trinity in Boston is closing, a new TLM will be celebrated north of Boston in Peabody MA.

The first authorized TLM on the North Shore in decades for the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul:

    2:00 pm

    Confessions 1:00 – 1:40 pm
    Instruction 1:45 pm

    St. Adelaide Parish Church
    708 Lowell Street
    Peabody, MA  01960

CELEBRANT:  Father Raymond Van de Moortell, Pastor

Refreshments immediately following in the lower church

This Mass is offered in accordance with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Letter Summorum Pontificum.

    1. I knew Fr Van de Moortell when he was the Pastor of the S.S.P.X. chapel in Eddystone, PA. I am very happy to see him involved with the Extraordinary Form again.

    2. Thanks Father Z for posting this and thanks Paul for the background…

I made a test drive up there (Peabody MA) the other day. While I’m extremely sad Holy Trinity is closing, at least attendance was climbing which indicates that a real desire for the TLM exists in the Archdiocese of Boston.

    3. We are glad to see the continued expansion of the EF Mass in the Archdiocese of Boston. St. Adelaide is the sixth parish to offer the EF since Summorum Pontificum was promulgated. The others are Mary Immaculate in Newton (where the former indult was moved in April 2007), Holy Trinity, (both every Sunday Mass, with every Saturday and First Friday at the former), Sacred Heart in East Boston (every Monday), St. Columbkille in Brighton (First Friday), and St. Barbara in Woburn (First Saturday).

      “. . . at least attendance [at Holy Trinity] was climbing . . .”
When the EF resumed at Holy Trinity on 10 February, attendance was about 100. Now it’s around 120, a 20% increase in four months. (Recent Globe stories, photos, and editorials may have contributed to this.)

For those of you who can “bilocate,” you are certainly more than welcome to attend the events of the closing weekend at Holy Trinity:

Friday, 27 June, 7 to 9 PM EDT: Eucharistic Exposition, silent prayer/public prayer, and Benediction.

Sunday, 29 June, 9 AM: EF High Mass; 11 AM: English/German Mass. Reception will follow each Mass (luncheon after the latter Mass). Benediction will follow the afternoon reception.

Those of you in the Boston area, we will now have Rosary at Holy Trinity on Wednesday at 8 PM and Saturday at 2 PM (following choir rehearsal). All, wherever you live, are asked to pray a daily Rosary for Holy Trinity.
