    York, England: TLM news

CATEGORY: SESSIUNCULA — Fr. John Zuhlsdorf @ 9:46 am

This is worthy of note, given how hard it is to get Summorum Pontificum going in England:

    Dear Fr Z,

Our small community at English Martyrs’ Parish in York, England is always grateful for your work and regular readers of your blog. We normally celebrate two EF Masses a month but we have a special Mass this coming Saturday. We will celebrate a Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Form in honour of Our Lady as part of our October devotions and a local schola, the Rudgate Singers, will provide music. Would it be possible for you to post details of this Mass, which are below? We are trying to reach out to as many people as possible who may be unaware of the EF in York, and we pray that this Mass will encourage more people than usual to celebrate with us.

Thank you again for your excellent work and encouragement, and we keep you in our prayers.

    Andrew

    1. I would like to add that Mass is celebrated in the usus antiquior at the church of the English Martyrs’ in York twice each month:

      First Sunday 6.00pm Low Mass
      Third Sunday 6.00pm Missa Cantata

Recently, the celebrant has been Fr William Charlton, to whom we are very grateful. Fr Charlton is leaving the area shortly to take up an appointment in Middlesbrough and will no longer be available. At present, we have no replacement. Please pray that another priest will be found so that these Masses can continue.

    2. I believe that this group was the one that sang a Mass written for Fr. James Fryar, an American priest.

    3. ‘Pope Evaristus’ is quite correct. We were the first choir in Europe, and I believe outside the USA, to sing this Mass. Our main aim is to restore Sacred Music to Church Services in its proper liturgical context, as opposed to just listening to it on CD or in concerts.
