EWTN picks up the ball on the CatholicVote.org pro-life ad

Patrick Madrid caught that EWTN will air the CatholicVote.org pro-life ad which NBC refused.

Irondale, AL (EWTN) – See the pro-life commercial NBC refused to air during the Super Bowl on EWTN Global Catholic Network this Sunday Feb. 1, beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET and continuing through midnight ET.

The commercial, sponsored by Fidelis and catholicvote.com, centers around the theme: “Life: Imagine the Potential.” It will begin airing during “Faith Bowl II,” an annual Family Theatre made-for-television special, which analyzes the role that the Catholic/Christian Faith plays in professional and collegiate sports. This year, Major League Baseball’s Mark Loretta of the Los Angeles Dodgers will guest along with former professional soccer player Antonio Soave.

The commercials will continue throughout EWTN’s Sunday evening lineup, including the shows with popular series Hosts Father Benedict Groeschel and Father John Corapi, and will conclude at midnight ET.

EWTN also aired this powerful commercial several times during its extensive coverage of the March for Life, which is always Washington D.C.’s largest march of the year. This year, the event conservatively attracted 300,000 marchers (some estimates were as high as 400,000 marchers), even though the price of hotel rooms was sky high due to the Inauguration two days earlier.

    EWTN is preaching to the choir. The ad is designed to transform the hearts of pro choice adherents. The ad does little good on EWTN

  4. So the persecution is stepped up a notch. Expect more of this to come. What typical behavior to keep the truth away from the media-hypnotized general populace.

  5. Wrong. EWTN is not merely “preaching to the choir.” There are many non-Catholics out there who watch EWTN out of curiosity, fascination, or for other reasons. I’ve met many of them in my travels, men and women who’ve told me personally that stumbling upon EWTN was a major factor in their eventual conversion to the Catholic Church. Dion Dimucci of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame fame is one such example. An ex-Catholic turned Evangelical Protestant, he was anti-Catholic for many years until one evening when he chanced upon Marcus Grodi’s “Journey Home” program. It stopped him in his tracks, and he began to watch the network (forgive the pun) religiously, and it didn’t take long before he was received back into the Church.

    The claim that the only people watching EWTN are “the choir” simply isn’t true. Which is why it’s a great thing that the network is airing this commercial. Plenty of currently pro-abortion folks will see it who otherwise wouldn’t have.

    You are correct; Mother Angelica’s appearance on the Today Show many years ago made me search out EWTN in order to watch her program. Before long I was watching quite a few programs on EWTN, including their coverage of the funeral of Pope John Paul II and the election of Pope Benedict. After Pope Benedict appeared on the balcony, I made up my mind to sign up for RCIA classes and was welcomed into the Church 3 years ago.

    Suggestion to anyone with the capability…

    we are putting a large screen TV in our store window on which we will run the CatholicVote ad over and over…plan to intersperce with power point bullet form info on FOCA……one small but hopefully effective means to help spread the message….

    I disagree that this is preaching to the choir. Sad to say, there are many who call themselves Catholic who voted for Obama and are ‘pro-choice.’

    Since Budweiser is such a heavy advertiser during the Superbowl, I went to the Anheuser Busch (parent company) web site and sent this message:

    NBC has declined to accept the video from CatholicVote.org as a Superbowl advertisement. It is my intention to make note of all Superbowl advertising sponsors and stop purchasing their products if this video is refused. It is also my intention to communicate this to people on my blog, hoping that others spread the word and imitate.

    Anheuser Busch has always had the most (and most amusing) commercials during the Superbowl. I’m sorry this will be for naught this year. I’m sure I will enjoy them, but I will stop purchasing your product.

    I suggest you contact NBC and ask them to make other arrangements.

    I suspect that if NBC won’t listen to individuals, they may listen to heavy purchasers of their advertising.

    I was a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage fallen away Catholic when I started watching, and listening to, EWTN. Although I had heard women speak about the trauma their abortions caused them, and I understood the unconstitutionality of Roe v. Wade, neither swayed my opinion. It took my return to the Church for me to change.

  13. I for one was disgusted that NBC not only pulled this commercial, but ran one not 10 minutes into the game for the soon to be released anti-Catholic movie sequel to ‘The DaVinci Code’ – “Angels and Demons” that even showed the destruction of St. Peter’s Basilica.

    I wrote an article on my blog and I haven’t even started to get on NBC’s case yet.

    I’ll also be contacting NBC’s Super Bowl advertisers to let them know why I didn’t see their expensive commercials and that I won’t be doing business with anyone that supports NBS’c position.
