Pray for Pope Benedict

The Holy Father is clearly feeling the heavy burden of his office.

Let us all pray more frequently for the Holy Father and remind others to do the same.

From the the Enchiridion of Indulgences, #25:

A partial indulgence is granted to the Christian faithful who, in a spirit of filial devotion, devoutly recite any duly approved prayer for the Supreme Pontiff (e.g., the Oremus pro Pontifice):

V. Let us pray for our Pontiff, Pope Benedict.

R. May the Lord preserve him, and give him life, and bless him upon earth, and deliver him not to the will of his enemies.

Our Father.  Hail Mary.

Let us pray.

O God, Shepherd and Ruler of all Thy faithful people, look mercifully upon Thy servant Benedict, whom Thou hast chosen as shepherd to preside over Thy Church. Grant him, we beseech Thee, that by his word and example, he may edify those over whom he hath charge, so that together with the flock committed to him, may he attain everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here are some trinkets which you might consider in this cause, to help reminded people to pray for the Holy Father.

With the help of "Vincenzo", the official WDTPRS photoshopper, I made a cafepress store for buttons and the like.

  2. Geoffrey says:

I have been watching the coverage of the Holy Father in Portugal and he looks very good! Joyful when greeted by the vast crowds chanting “Viva Papa!” Of course I will continue to pray for him daily!

  3. Filipe says:

    Father,
Yes, the Pope is definitely feeling the burden of his duty. However, as Geoffrey has noted, he has been all smiles since arriving in Portugal.
Here he has not had to have meetings with victims of abuse, there have been no protests, no threats of arrest… nothing but goodwill and enthusiasm. I believe that all this has been invigorating for him, and as a Portuguese catholic, consider it a tremendous honour!

He has spoken brilliantly. Inspiring us with hope, challenging us to convert, but never forgetting the sins and troubles of the world and of humanity, the crises of faith, etc.

The trip has been a tremendous blessing, the organization, true to Portuguese style, was chaotic until the last minute, but since his arrival it has been superb. The british are here prepare for the visit to the UK in September, and they have been very impressed.

So yes, let’s pray for the Pope, but let us give thanks also for the general atmosphere of support, solidarity and consolation which he has been able to enjoy in this country.

    Filipe

  4. I offered prayers immediately upon reading this post.

    God bless our Holy Father.

  5. Andrew says:

I felt very sorry for him yesterday when I saw him on television in Fatima. He prayed the rosary in Latin and the vast multitude kept responding in whatever vulgar language they knew. And even the clergy didn’t seem to join him in Latin. And why should they? They don’t know it either. But he bravely stood his ground and said his part in Latin like some soldier in a battlefield fighting alone with no one to help him.

  6. Peggy R says:

Done. The KofC at our parish handed out prayer cards for the pope recently.

I hear Nancy Pelosi is willing to step in and provide guidance to the faithful and clergy if the Holy Father is not up to the task.

  7. Dr. Eric says:

    Ad Multos Annos!

I watched the EWTN coverage of the Mass in Lisbon-the Holy Father has an excellent command of the Portuguese language! And his voice even sounds different in that language….more robust!

I looked also at the “Rome Reports’ videos from Fatima; he was a very loving son when he brought the Golden Rose to place at Our Lady’s feet. Did anyone see him as a little baby was lifted up for him to kiss? Very sweet! And what a crowd of pilgrims!

I pray everyday for our Papa-at the end of my Rosary I say three Hail Marys for him, following the example of Blessed Jacinta of Fatima. And after the Rosary, I offer the English translation of ‘Oremus Pro Pontifice’ which you provided, Father Z; I jotted it down in a little notebook that I have in my purse.

Viva il Papa! Ad Multos Annos!
