   Helped a friend in getting her house blessed and Consecrated to the Sacred Heart last Monday (in time for the month of June, the month of the Sacred Heart!).

   We were able to visit our daughter in SD over the Memorial Day weekend. She is a Carmelite postulant, cloistered. It was so good to see her. She is very happy there.

   There will be a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form for the Feast of Corpus Christi at Cincinnati’s Old St. Mary Church. This follows several celebrations of Mass in EF at OSM in recent weeks. The roadblock thrown up in front of Summorum Pontificum here in the immediate aftermath of its release appears to be coming down.

   In the last three months I’ve rediscovered my Catholic faith…and oh, but it’s good to be back!

   I have not one, but TWO priests truly worthy of the name who celebrate the EF on Sundays and are good confessors, to boot.

   There is a church less than ten minutes from my house where the Blessed Sacrament is present all day, every day and the church is open so as to encourage people to stop in for a few minutes with Christ.

   Finally, I have rosemary foccaccia in the works which, while it may not be quite on the level of the last three, is a great good all of itself!

    We spent a nice weekend visiting my parents and mother-in-law. It allowed us to make a long-overdue (we hadn’t been able to travel due to some health issues) assessment of progress/status on some of their ongoing health matters, and take care of some logistical and maintenance support. We all got an emotional boost out of seeing each other, as well.

    Daughter no2 graduated high school the 23 of May and then daughter no1 was married May the 29th, what a week, nice wedding mass, very novus ordo unfortunately, but beautiful just the same, because it was my daughter. I cried when I gave her away, she was shaking and tearing up when I went to get her from the vestibule, got to hold my baby one last time, sigh, God it hurts to be a father :}

    My wife and I went on a great retreat this past weekend.

    There are two jobs that I am being considered for.

    Archbishop Vlazny of Portland, Oregon, will be ordaining six men to the priesthood this month.

    I recently received word from Bishop Nickless’ assistant (Bishop Nickless and the wonderful Pastoral Letter that he wrote on Vatican II is mentioned on WDTPRS here: http://wdtprs.com/blog/2009/10/bp-nickless-d-sioux-city-outstanding-pastoral-letter/) telling me that he is willing to write the Foreword for my latest book, “Ten Things every Catholic Should Know about Vatican II.”

    I’m absolutely thrilled to have the support of such a wonderful shepherd! All glory and honor to God!

    Let’s see, there’s so much. I’ll go with three.

    A good friend went from saying “I don’t believe in confession” to agreeing willing to go in the course of a brief conversation. It’s amazing to see the Holy Spirit work in someone as you watch!

    We have two more sessions, including a retreat at Mundelein, and then the aspirancy year ends more-or-less when we go before the scrutinies and admissions board on the 19th.

    On the 22nd we fly to Rome. We also plan to go to Assisi, Ravenna, and Siena, among other places.

    Last week I went to the Mass for St Philip Neri at Brompton Oratory, orver the weekend I was on the National Association of Catholic Families Pilgrimage to Walsingham and tomorrow I’m off to Brighton to sing at Fr Ray’s Missa Cantata for Corpus Christi.

    Oh yes and Walsingham afforded me the oportnity to play ‘God Bless our Pope’ down the main street on the trumpet whilst everyone else sang the hymn.

    Our Parish is sending the church bus full of faithful to lend support.
    Our Bishop is healing after his stroke and will ordain them
    Please pray for all men being ordained this June.

    Went to 10 am Mass last Sunday on the way back home from visiting family. It was a small country parish with a good mix of old, young and teenagers. There were lots of young families-fathers as well as mothers and children. The man in front of me was helping his young son to find the place in the missalette.
    All the children were under control–one escapee crawled down the aisle but he was quickly apprehended and there was no obtrusive noise.
    The old priest said a quiet N.O. mass–no singing and the sermon wasn’t all that inspiring but there was reverence and attentiveness and the feeling of being in a faith filled and caring community.
    I continued my journey feeling uplifted and thanking God that there is still so much faith in Ireland in spite of all our problems.

    Father Anthony Ochoa was ordained as a priest for the Archdiocese of St. Louis this past Saturday, 05/30/2010. His first Mass was a Solemn High Mass celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Oratory (Institute of Christ the King) on Trinity Sunday.

    Let us pray for the Class of 2010!

    Well it’s not news, except it’s news to me. I recently found out that William Frederick “Buffalo Bill” Cody was received into the Church the day before he died. I just think it’s so wonderful that Holy Mother Church has both him and St. Thomas Aquinas in Her Mystical Body. I got to thinking about St. Thomas attending “The Wild West Show”. He would probably analyze it to the point of distraction but thoroughly enjoy it.

    Today I received request forms for prayer shawls / blankets that will almost totally deplete our stock of blessed shawls and blankets. One of the EMHC’s who brings Holy Communion to ladies in a home for the elderly brought six sewn blankets to give to residents of the home about 2 weeks ago. They were eagerly received. Now she wants five more for the remaining residents and three others for ladies who are housebound in their own homes. Another person requested a lap blankets for each of two men who are ill.

    On Tuesday, Fr. Hayden will bless the shawls and blankets that we have completed since March 8th, so that they will be ready to be given to those requesting them. One child’s blanket is already requested.

    Also on Tuesday my husband and I will be flying to London to start our vacation. We will be spending some time with my 81 year old brother, a retired priest, in Wales. Then, on the 18th we will fly to Rome where we will spend a week before flying home via Gatwick. We will be staying in an apartment in Borgo Pio.

    One daughter has purchased a large home on almost four acres in Lindale, (East)Texas, just outside Tyler. She, another daughter with disabilites, and I will be sharing it. I have a tentative offer on my home, which I hope will see fruition soon. I will miss St. Stephen the First Martyr in Sacramento with all its fullness. However, the FSSP has an apostolate there (a major reason for choosing this particular place) with Father William Allen. Right now there is a small chapel, St. Joseph the Worker, which holds about 100 people. There is a daily Mass and a Sunday Mass, plus Holy Days, of course. My daughter and I attended Mass there while looking for property. There were families with children, and First Communion is scheduled this summer. There was the requisite crying baby at the rear of the church, which was packed. The people are wonderful. The really GOOD news is that the apostolate is most likely being “upgraded” to a canonical house, giving the FSSP a “juridical personality,” with greater stability for the FSSP presence in the Diocese of Tyler. Bishop Corrada has requested the change in status and is grateful for the Fraternity’s work. Praise God and bless this Bishop. Reasons for moving from California are several, the primary one being financial in nature. I will miss my native State, but East Texas looks very inviting, with pine woods, lakes, and the Gregorian Mass.

    This has sure been a blessing to read. I am happy for you all!

    Let’s see. My happy news for today is that one of our priests is coming to our home for dinner tonight, and I just learned at Mass today that it is the anniversary of his ordination!! I’m so excited we will be able to celebrate with him! Last minute cake-making plans are underway. :)

    Also, my husband has decided to go forward with his application to become a diaconal candidate. Would you all please take a moment and pray for him? His name is Alex. Thank you!

    I have had a benign brain tumor for several years.
    Recently it showed some growth but it has not, thank God, turned malignant, nor will surgery be required.

    Also our son moved out on his own so my wife & I are alone together for the first time in 26 years!

    One of my dearest friends from high school and college, who introduced me to the EF Mass, was ordained a priest on Saturday and offered his first Mass on Sunday.
    Thursday I am organizing a Solemn High Mass for Corpus Christi followed by an outdoor procession.
    Saturday will see the ordination to the sacred priesthood of another dear friend from my days as a seminarian.

    My husband and I have both been searching for work since March, and this week we each have an interview. We are wracked with nerves, but after several rejections we are just grateful that someone thinks we’re at least worth talking to. (In case they don’t go well, do you know anyone who needs a full-time organist?)

    Also, my cousin graduated from medical school last week. I am so glad to know there is another good doctor in the world! Our grandmother, who was a nurse, would have been so proud.

    We’re getting a new priest. In his former parish he offered the EF of the most holy sacrifice of the mass twice a month. I’m trying so hard to NOT ambush the man… He will be met with resistance. Still, I am hopeful and I trust in God’s wisdom! Pray for us!

    Seven men were ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Austin, TX. I was able to attend the Mass and it was beautiful.

    We are moving back to our favorite FSSP parish, St. Benedict’s in Chesapeake, VA. It is only for 2 years(military), but they have CCD using the Baltimore Catechism so it is theologically safe to send the kids, 2 daily Masses, spiritual retreats, an associated homeschool group, and wonderful parishoners who are like a big family.

    On Saturday, just a few days post-op, I felt well enough to take my mother and my youngest daughter to the TLM at St. Mary Magdalene de Pazzi and my mother was just overwhelmed by the beauty and reverence of the Mass. We were fortunate to be sitting just a few pews back from the altar and my mother remarked afterward how overcome she was by the beauty and solemnity of the Consecration. It was the first time in over 40 years that she’d been to a TLM. Also, I’d been in search of two things: a mantilla that stays put, and a Missal. My mother happened to remember where she had tucked her own away and I am now the joyful owner of both of her gems.

    My father has been sick for 2 years and was finally successfully diagnosed at the U of M medical center. He is being treated and can breath again!! Thank you Mary for your intercession through the Most Holy Rosary!

    My daughter received her First Communion on May 16, after her first and second confessions on May 8 and 14. Blessed be God!
    My son was confirmed on April 9.

    School is out and it’s time to relax a little.

    My oldest (daughter) graduated from community college summa cum laude, got a part-time job which fits in with her continuing coursework this summer. Nothing fantastic, but something for her resume.

    My daughter received her First Holy Communion last Sunday!

    We are having a bumper crop of strawberries! I try not to mutter when we bring in huge bowls of them. It is a lot of work to deal with them, but I am very grateful. There is nothing in the world like strawberry jam! Yum.

    Congrat to you all. Your good news is very inspiring. I really do get very excited and encouraged when I read about it all.

    My wife and I just celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary! Our oldest child, 17 (soon to be 18), graduates from high school this Sunday, June 6th and we just celebrated the first birthday of our youngest child! There are two in between – 13 and 10. It is never a dull moment in our home! We are truly blessed that we have such a wonderful family!

    Have been rehearsing hard all week to sing at a TLM which is being offered in a nearby city on Sunday. This is truly a labor of love for me.

    My daughter in California has started her job and seems very happy.

    We’re singing the ordinary of tomorrow evening’s Mass according to a beautiful setting first composed in the 40s but not sung for the best part of 40 years. I remember it with affection from my childhood and knew some of the many fine singers who sang back then, many now gone on, and so feel privileged to sing it in their memory, and that of the many good priests we had… although some of them never could get the chant intonations right :)
