Hurray for President Obama!

Did you ever think to read that here?

President Obama’s approval rating may be at an all time low, but today for me he ticked up a notch!

POTUS signed a critically important world-changing piece of high impact legislation of global important significance and meaningfulness.

I guess this proves that elected officials can get the really important things done.

From CBS:

Obama Signs CALM Act on Volume of TV Commercials

TV viewers, rejoice: You’ll no longer get blown out of your seat by the difference in volume between the television program you’re watching and the commercials that air during it.

On Wednesday President Obama signed into law the “Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation” or “CALM Act.” A press release from the White House states the law “requires the Federal Communications Commission to prescribe a regulation limiting the volume of audio on commercials transmitted by television broadcast stations, cable operators, and other multichannel video programming distributors.”

The House passed the bill by a voice vote on Dec. 2. It was passed the Senate unanimously in September. The FCC will start enforcing the new rules within a year.

Consumers have complained to the FCC about loud commercials for decades, and Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif. [Chaldean Catholic]) told the Wall Street Journal in December that the CALM Act is the most popular piece of legislation she’s sponsored in her 18 years in Congress. [Get this… she is pro-abortion too.  Just thought I would toss that in.] “If I’d saved 50 million children from some malady, people would not have the interest that they have in this,” she said.

For now, the FCC has a webpage on the subject, which advises consumers, “Manually controlling volume levels with the remote control remains the simplest approach to reducing excessive volume levels.”  [Well.. that’s helpful!]

I wonder if this will affect POTUS approval rating.

Meanwhile…

[CUE MUSIC]

coffeeWhen you’ve had a hard day, a noisy day, filled with noisy noise, use that remote control like the FCC recommends and TURN OFF THE TV …. er umm… lower the volume on the TV so that you aren’t distracted while you order some Mystic Monk Coffee!

Yes, as Screwtape says, Hell is full of noise.  On the other hand, Mystic Monk Coffee helps to create peace, quite and CALM.  I bet the pro-life politicians who voted for the CALM legislation were drinking Mystic Monk Coffeeand from WDTPRS mugs.  And if they weren’t they were wishing they were!

So, do your part to promote peace and quiet in the world and refresh your coffee supply now!

Mystic Monk Coffee!

It’s swell!

Hmm, some malady that could have saved 50 million unborn children. Don’t eschew such legislation Rep. Eshoo. You might be surprised.

  2. Is there an amendment to turn the volume down on “The View”?

  3. Cathy: How about off on The View?

  4. ejcmartin says:

Now if they could only address the decibel level of the music playing in every store and mall that would be a real achievement.

  5. digdigby says:

Television? I haven’t watched TV in Sixteen years. Watch a wonderful movie about Mongolian nomads called The Weeping Camel. Watch an entire way of life, the connection between the generations EVERYTHING destroyed in….a few hours by a television. The only thing a TV is good for is to watch a DVD like TREE OF THE WOODEN CLOGS.

  6. Christo et Ecclesiae says:

Yes… now my dad will stop complaining about it! Haha I just called him to share the good news.

  7. shin says:

Good show digdigby! Waste of time! :D

Who needs TV? And finds it morally acceptable? Out with it! :D You won’t have it on in Heaven if you get there!

Fr. Frank Poncelet of the Apostolate of Our Lady of No-TV would be unimpressed I think!

  8. rakesvines says:

Wow. Really. That is going to shift the paradigm of the known universe of knowledge – not.
But since he is Obama, will he get another Nobel prize for that crop? There must be an affirmative action rule for presidents like himself. Hopefully, he did not call on the Clintons again to sign for him. When January comes, I hope this pretender gets booted out and all his obscenities invalidated and nullified. Life is wasted on Democrats.

You know what, guys… this act is bad for the environment and IMPERILS out right to breathe clean air! Think about how many people go to sleep with the TV on, only to be randomly woken up an hour later by some loud-mouthed wrestling commercial?! (Just me? Okay, I guess not many other people watch CNN at night.) Think about how many people will now remain comfortably asleep for the entire nighttime! This could easily quintuple the amount of Evil Electricity being used in the darkest parts of the night! Indeed, this is a dark night for our Planet (All Blessings Be To Thee, Oh Unicorns of Gaia!) Think of the strained muscles and pinched nerves of countless millions, antiprone and slack-jawed in their slumbers from 11pm to well past 6 in the morning. All of those people will (but, of course) need to visit their Chiropractors and Massage Artists, contributing to more cars burning more fossil fuels while go-go-going to-and-fro! THIS IS TERRIBLE NEWS!

  10. ghlad: That’s a grim picture you paint.

  11. curtjester says:

Yeah now they do it, long after I have watched a commercial live thanks to DVRs.

  12. wow…wow…this Congress never fails to amaze me

  13. EXCHIEF says:

Thus far the highlight of Obama’s reign as it is the only piece of legislation associated with him that I could even remotely support.

  14. Mr. Graves says:

Don’t make fun of this, folks. There’s historical precedent for the CALM act.

Nero decreed *exactly* the same thing so the conflagration of Rome wouldn’t interfere with his violin recital.

  15. Joan M says:

It needed a law to do this???? How crazy!!

  16. susanna says:

Don’t just turn off the TV – Kill it. Bury in landfill.

  17. Just what this country needs, more regulations. (And bureaucrats to enforce them.)

  18. nanetteclaret says:

The only thing good on TV is EWTN. I’ve learned so much about our Church, Catholic history, Catholic life, the virtues (and vices) through Mother Angelica, other converts’ stories on “The Journey Home,” what’s going on in the Church today through “The World Over” and “EWTN Live,” not to mention televised Masses from the Vatican and Cathedrals around the country. This evening I plan to watch “The Monastic Voice” at 6:30 p.m. EST. It’s about the monks of Pluscarden Abbey in Scotland, who say the Divine Office 7 times a day in LATIN!

So TV is good for something…

  19. Banjo pickin girl says:

nanette, I agree about EWTN, it’s a Godsend for somebody like me. I have lots of their programs DVR’d.

  20. digdigby says:

    nanetteclaret-

Dietrich Von Hildebrand said it most clearly. “We must become less that God become more.” All the other post-Christian ‘spiritualities’ and certainly Protestants in their ‘Glass Cathedrals’ have trained us Catholics to ‘enrich’ ourselves. I am NOT putting you down in anyway just wondering aloud: I find myself capable of only ‘digesting’ very little. As a convert, I was prey to ‘enthusiasm’
born of pride and found I was ‘enriching’ and making ‘distinguished’ my Old Man and that I wasn’t really growing in faith but in spiritual pride (and still am).

  21. catholicmidwest says:

Ah, he’s just getting closer to re-election time and he’s trying to fool people into voting for him again, so he can give us all the big screw job again.

He’s been talking to “school uniform” Bill Clinton. I can tell.
