iPhone alarm glitch

Those of you who have iPhones… have you noticed a glitch in the alarm function since the first of the year?

My alarms have not rung either yesterday or today.   It is a good thing I woke up when I did!

Heard anything?

UPDATE:

My Liber Pro app isn’t working either.

  1. One of our local priests slept through 6.30 AM Mass on Saturday thanks to the glitch.

  2. cregduff says:

I have heard it fixes itself as of 1/3/11.

Macrumors.com had the story very early on.

  3. biberin says:

Well, I feel better now. I thought it was just me, and then I realized, because I had a couple quiet days and had programmed in alarms for all seven Hours, that when I turned a beeping alarm “off,” it was not only turning off the current beeping, but also turning the entire alarm to OFF. After it happened the third time, I got a clue :)

This was on an iPod touch, by the way, not an iPhone.

  4. Mike says:

The glitch will only affect yesterday and today. The fix is to set the alarm as a recurring event. Alarms on the iPhone should work tomorrow. Happy New Year Apple!

  5. Hans says:

I couldn’t figure it out. Everything else related seemed to be working. It’s reassuring, I suppose, that it’s not just mine.

Do you suppose some at Apple wanted to sleep In this weekend?

  6. Hans says:

    Make that ‘someone at Apple’.

  7. Most Apple tech blogs had this story before it was even midnight on the west coast. Early reports were coming out of Australia, confirmed as the year changed ’round the world. It was only supposed to affect one-time alarms, not recurring ones. Our recurring alarm worked fine.

Ya that happened to me… It was a miracle I woke up in time for mass

Fortunately I had no reason to wake up extra early, so my alarms not going off was fine.

Father, I wish the glitch were 2 weeks ago! I woke up unexpectedly early one morning and decided to go to a 7am Mass. I always turn my iPhone to silent (no vibrate) when I go to Mass. What I didn’t realize is that *alarms* do not go on silent with the phone.

So I was at the Mass, in the Communion line, and just when it was my turn to receive Our Lord, as I dropped down to my knees, my alarm started blasting away! I wanted to curl up and die right on the spot. Fortunately I recovered quickly and darted aside into the front pew, turned the phone off, and got back into the line.

No alarms or anything now for me—I turn the phone off when I go in.

  11. Oh good. I thought it was me being super-dozy.

I assumed I’d slept through the alarm. Looks like it just didn’t work – fortunately the kittens decided they wanted feeding, so I made it to Mass on time!

And yes, my Liber doesn’t load either… I even tried reloading it from my PC. No luck. Presumably someone will sort it out…?

The assistant at a neighboring parish got a big, sympathetic chuckle from the congregation this morning at the 10:30 Mass. “The Confiteor has a special meaning for me today”, he said. “I have sinned.” He explained that he had slept through his alarm and missed getting ready for the 8:45 Mass, forcing the pastor to fill in for him. Poor lad (he’s Irish) need not have been so profuse with the apologies, if it turns out he’s an iPhone user.

  13. GirlCanChant says:

My iPod Touch (that I’ve had for 2 years) did not go off this morning, so I inadvertantly slept until 10. I can get all the other sounds to work, just not the alarm. Even the timer works fine.

The LiberPro folks (Drake Applications) announced on their website that the Liber Pro app would have a glitch in it after January 1st, so they pulled it from the App store. I know because I just got an iPad and went to download it…

The new version has been submitted to the App Store and is awaiting approval.

  15. Mindyleigh says:

Yep, happened to us…needed to get my son to serve the Altar by 9. Woke up on my own at 8:16 …and takes a half hour to drive there! Plus fifteen minutes early to put on Alb, etc….thank the Lord we made it. :)

My iPhone 3GS alarm did not sound either yesterday or today.

  17. PeterK says:

Personally I use a device called an alarm clock. ;-) anything dependent upon software is likely to fail

  18. ipadre says:

I use my iPad for my alarm, but have woken before my alarm for the past two days, so I don’t know. The app is called “Ambient Time” (Ambient Alarm). Usually wake to Gregorian Chant.

Thank you thank you thank you for posting this! Now I know why my alarm did not go off yesterday morning. I was a bit perplexed and now I know! Thanks, Fr. Z- another shining example of how this blog has been a great source of information for me!! Who’da thought?
