Mr. President? REALLY?

This morning The First Gay President addressed the National Prayer Breakfast. [UPDATE: Text HERE.]

Two take away lines:

“[T]he killing of innocents is never fulfilling God’s will.”

“[F]reedom of religion matters to our national security.”

Really?

To paraphrase Mary McCarthy, but only slightly:

Every word he says is a lie, including “and” and “the”.

I like his cope. Very ECUSA. Ms Sebelius looks like a true believer who would gather at night.
I can’t make out the name or link of the cartoon. Is it available?

  2. Jeff says:

On a positive note, at least she is kneeling for communion. And the guy behind her is reverent!

  3. Traductora says:

Obama is the very definition of chutzpah. Or cognitive dissonance, one or the other.

Of course, it’s also possible that he doesn’t even know what he’s going to say it until he reads it on his script, which is prepared in advance for him by his political advisors. They evidently felt they had to do something because he was getting a bad but accurate rep for being hostile to religion (well, to Christianity at least). Hence the shameless lies.

  4. Facta Non Verba says:

I wish the Little Sisters of the Poor had been given a chance to speak there, as well as the owners of Hobby Lobby. I wonder if Dear Leader realizes at all what a hypocrite his administration is on this issue.

  5. Maynardus says:

I must confess I heard some excerpts from the speech about 5 min ago and thought “wonder whether Fr. Z. has weighed-in on this yet?” You did not disappoint.
The arrogance and mendacity of this man is breathtaking. Nixon looked like he was lying even when he wasn’t, Clinton “fooled some of the people all of the time” and “[enough] of the people some of the time” (even when he was *obviously* fibbing), but this guy is in a league of his own. With nothing to fear from the MSM he says things like this in a coolly calculated fashion knowing that they will be reported verbatim and uncritically, reassuring the low-info masses and casting himself as above the fray “divisive” and “partisan” issues. I’m surprised he didn’t imply that the GOP was in favor of the “killing of innocents” and threatening our freedom of religion!

  6. Mike says:

Not to be forgotten is that this is the man for whose evil policies many of the American Church hierarchy would like to be a cheerleader (oh, except for that pesky mandate thingy — never mind the shredding of subsidiarity and the inevitable rationing to come).

    Let us pray.

  7. wmeyer says:

The cartoon appears to be by Gary Varvel, of the Indianapolis Star.

  8. ckdexterhaven says:

Just a couple if weeks ago, on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Obama said abortion allows women ‘to fulfill their dreams.’

Thanks Obama voters. Thanks, a lot.

  9. Netmilsmom says:

If one can boldly lie, with a serious look while pounding a table and pointing a finger, many will believe him.

Where is the lightning smote when we need it?

  10. Nicholas Shaler says:

“Boldly lie, with a serious look while pounding a table and pointing a finger… Believe him?”

    Hitler?

  11. LeslieL says:

Oh, Fr. Z. he said so much more *lol* and he did it with a straight face…I wonder how he can do that? Here are some excerpts for you to ponder (as I read them, I honestly began to choke on my tea…so my suggestion to all reading this is to take a deep breath, suspend belief and DON’T CHOKE):

“Now, here, as Americans, we affirm the freedoms endowed by our Creator, among them freedom of religion. And, yes, this freedom safeguards religion, allowing us to flourish as one of the most religious countries on Earth, but it works the other way, too — because religion strengthens America. Brave men and women of faith have challenged our conscience and brought us closer to our founding ideals…”

“…I am especially looking forward to returning to the Vatican next month to meet His Holiness, Pope Francis, whose message about caring for the “least of these” is one that I hope all of us heed.”

“Extremists succumb to an ignorant nihilism that shows they don’t understand the faiths they claim to profess — for the killing of the innocent is never fulfilling God’s will; in fact, it’s the ultimate betrayal of God’s will.”

“So promoting religious freedom is a key objective of U.S. foreign policy. And I’m proud that no nation on Earth does more to stand up for the freedom of religion around the world than the United States of America. “(Applause.)

“We continue to stand for the rights of all people to practice their faiths in peace and in freedom.”

    and the best?
” Today, we profess the principles we know to be true. We believe that each of us is “wonderfully made” in the image of God. We, therefore, believe in the inherent dignity of every human being — dignity that no earthly power can take away. And central to that dignity is freedom of religion — the right of every person to practice their faith how they choose, to change their faith if they choose, or to practice no faith at all, and to do this free from persecution and fear.”

Is it any wonder I choked on my tea???

  12. DisturbedMary says:

A sick, sick sociopath delivered to us twice by the wretched worshipers of the golden calf. 54% of Catholics in willful violation of the First Commandment — thou shalt not have strange gods before me. And of course, the sixth as well.

LeslieL, yes there is plenty more, like Jesus would want us to tax the rich……There are videos up on youtube, if you have the stomach.

  13. wmeyer says:

“I wonder how he can do that?”

I think it should be clear by now that to Obama, truth is simply whatever he is about to say.

  14. Hospodi pomiluyi (Lord have mercy)….Throw a bone, yet continue to dismantle…makes total sense.

  15. iPadre says:

She’s an Obama supporter, kneeling before her false god!

St. Paul Miki & Companions, pray for us! We may soon be like you.

  16. Kathleen10 says:

Too bad there is no media to point out his hypocrisies and manipulations.
He surely thinks “I’m going to a Prayer Breakfast…need buzzwords….prayer….worship….religion….life…..God…..that oughta do it!” If the media did their job he would not be able to get away with such obscene hypocrisy, but, they don’t, the jackals. This is the same media that wouldn’t let George Bush say “good morning” without calling him on it.

  17. Chris Garton-Zavesky says:

Most important line in the speech:

We sometimes see religion twisted in an attempt to justify hatred and persecution against other people just because of who they are, or how they pray or who they love.

Observation: religion is “twisted” if it says anything about whom someone may love? Unspoken premises abound.!!

  18. Facta Non Verba says:

“[T]he killing of innocents is never fulfilling God’s will.”

This from the man who says he wouldn’t want his daughters “punished with a baby” if they made a mistake.

  19. Marc says:

I have no doubt he firmly believes both statements:

“The killing of innocents is never fulfilling God’s will.”
“Freedom of religion matters to our national security.”

He seems to operate in opposition of God’s Will as a rule, and he has made undermining national security the fundamental goal of his presidency.

  20. Iacobus M says:

Unlike an ordinary “progressive” who really believes the fantasies inherent in his ideology, Obama is a hardened Leftist, trained in Soviet style agitprop by way of Saul Alinsky. He knows he’s not a hypocrite, because for him The Truth is whatever moves his agenda forward. From the very beginning of his administration he has been doing things such as eliminating school vouchers in D.C. while talking about expanded opportunity, or claiming that he’s replacing Ideology with Science (ahem, that’s SCIENCE) as he redirects federal money from ethical and effective adult stem cell research to the unethical, ineffective and unnecessary embryonic stem cell experimentation favored by the left. He’ll keep doing as long as it works – and as long as the inattentive voters in the middle don’t notice the Man Behind the Curtain, why should he stop?

  21. Katylamb says:

Disturbed Mary: The sixth commandment is “Thou shalt not commit adultery. ” The fifth commandment is: “Thou shalt not kill.” I’m not sure what you meant to say but I’m pretty sure Obama has not been accused of violating the sixth commandment. Abortion is covered by the fifth. Is that what you meant? I know this is slightly off topic and I’m sorry, but I’ve seen this from others on here now and then and I’m tired of seeing Catholics use the Protestant version of the ten commandments.

  22. HeatherPA says:

I swear he lifted his words from “The Gospel of Life” as some kind of sick joke and game.
