I was alerted to a great video about the priesthood in which a friend of mine is interviewed. Fr. Jonathan Martin is a priest of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton in England. We lived together in Rome. He was completing his canon law degree. Now he is in Lewes (whence Thomas Paine hails).

This video brought tears to my eyes. How beautiful, and only 23 mins from where Supertradson was born and we lived. I know Lewes well. This priest is in my son’s diocese. What a great presentation!

American readers may not know that Lewes must be a particularly difficult town for a Catholic parish priest to serve in. Because of the deaths of several protestant martyrs there many years ago it is known for its enormous anti-Catholic celebrations on November 5th each year.
With banners of ‘NO POPERY’ always on view during these events the church of St Pancras
organises a talk around this time and cleverly calls it ‘KNOW POPERY.’ The last one I attended was on the history of the ancient Lewes priory now in ruins.
Incidentally Fr Martin is one of three Priests in this area who celebrates regularly the Extraordinary Form of the Mass – we are truly spoilt here.

When one is feeling very down about a lot of things happening in the church today, a video like this reminds one that there still goodness, holiness in individuals. May God bless guide and protect this good priests and all good priests who know the true meaning of their great call.
