Olympics Day 2-3: Maxed

I have my DVR recording multiple channels so that I can pick and choose which things to watch without commercials and skipping the sports that don’t interest me.  The DVR/TV system is so maxed out that I can’t change channels!  It gives me a message that I have to stop recording something before I can switch.  I also have events streaming to one of my monitors and on my laptop.

Over the last couple days, …

I did, however, watch the live Trump economic speech in Detroit.  That’s a kind of sport… isn’t it?

The trap shooting events have a few police officers competing, two, I think from Italy and a woman from London… if I understood the commentary correctly.  Meanwhile, these gals hit targets that are no bigger than a pencil point.

The sabre competition is always great.  I was into this for some time.  Very fast.

Right now, men’s rugby!  I didn’t bother with the women’s rugby.

  1. I am not into the Olympics, but I was irked to see Wil Wheaton whining about the first American gold medal being for trap shooting. Shut up, Wesley!

    Shooting is a sport?? hmm.

Here we have two public service (no commercials) channels going full tilt from Rio, one 24h a day, the other part of the day.

I’m watching sailing and show jumping.

The National Catholic Register had an interesting article about the gymnast Simone Biles and the swimmer Katie Ledecky, both Catholics.

I haven’t been watching the Olympics, but I did hear an interesting story on gymnast Simone Biles. Her natural father was reportedly completely absent from her life, and her mother struggled with addiction to the point Simone and her sister were taken away from her mother.

Her grandparents adopted them, raised them in the Catholic faith, and fostered Simone’s interest in gymnastics. Today, she has set records for the consistency of her outstanding performances, and is plainly among the most inspiring competitors in the Olympics.

The “wisdom” of some of our leaders insists she never should have been given that chance, and that doing so was an unreasonable burden on society. Thank God that she was spared from their plans.

    I agree Anita Moore.

Not surprisingly, the fact that an American Muslim woman athlete wore a hijab while competing is much more important to the media than the outcome of the actual event that she participated in(fencing). She has been defeated.

Hillary congratulated one of the two women.

  7. un-ionized says:

yes, shooting is the very best sport. all the other sports are for people who can’t shoot! I shoot therefore I am.

Piers Morgan too, apparently. Leftists showing their true colors (that is, total firearms bans). The Olympic disciplines are probably the furthest you can get in the shooting sports world from the “black rifle”/”assault weapon” type of stuff that the antis tell us they really care about.

    “Shooting is a sport?? hmm.”

Even the slow-paced bullseye stuff takes more physical control and discipline than the casual observer may think. Now if we’re talking the “run and gun” stuff (if anyone doesn’t know what I’m talking about, here’s one of my recent videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T3JXPcAFyE) there’s no question a certain level of fitness/conditioning absolutely benefits competitors when it comes to footwork, grip, breath control, etc.
