Lost toolbag spotted and aurora watch!

Space Weather News for Nov. 25th

ISS TOOLBAG:  A backpack-sized tool bag inadvertently dropped from the International Space Station last week is orbiting Earth and has been sighted from the ground.  The tool bag is surprisingly bright, about 6th or 7th magnitude, which makes it an easy target for binoculars or a small telescope.  Today’s edition of http://spaceweather.com offers observing tips, sighting reports and a movie of the bag in orbit.

AURORA WATCH:  High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras tonight and tomorrow.  Earth is entering a solar wind stream and this could trigger geomagnetic storms around the Arctic Circle.

NO WAY! The toolbag from outerspace! LOL
Speaking of space and orbiting, we just learned that little St. Therese’s relics were taken up by astronaut in space. How amazing.

  2. Chris says:

I feel so sorry for that lady. Most people’s mistakes like that are not televised and plastered on national media. Lord knows I have dropped my share of tools. Hopefully she will have a good sense of humor with the media coverage.

  3. Tina in Ashburn says:

Thanks for the warning Father. I’m getting my helmet out of the closet just in case.

  4. Charivari Rob says:

This sounds suspiciously like a BBC April 1st report to me, like the famous “Spaghetti Harvest” and “Planetary Alignment” reports.

  5. Maureen says:

It had to happen every once in a while. That’s why they brought up spares. Also, that’s probably why the bags were made so bright.

  6. Grateful in Seattle for NA Martyrs says:

If they’re Craftsmen, Sears will replace them free. [ROFL!]

  7. Juan T. says:

I remember Fr. Z hinting that apocalyptic events could never ever happen to us in this day. And he wanted me to remind him when the day these events transpire. I think this toolbag falling from Space is clear proof that these most strange and frightening times have arrived.

  8. Phil (NL) says:

If that toolbag is so bright, it’s probably because it’s burning up in the atmosphere ;)

I don’t know if it’s realistic for its orbit to decay that rapidly though.

  9. matteo says:

i still think its her purse and her compact is reflecting

  10. Ryan says:

Juan (and the rest of yous) — LOL!

  11. Mike says:

According to news reports, that bag and its contents were valued at about $100,000.
