After long delay, we’ve introduced Our Lady of Guadalupe into our calendar as a Feast, but now we have a problem: finding chants and texts! What is done in your community for Mass (Ordinary form) and Office regarding the Feast proper? Our choirmaster is especially interested in what chants are used from the Graduale. If you are able to give some insight a quick response (December 12th is this week!!) would be much appreciated.

Here in Boston, did the Mass as a Votive for Friday, though in the EF. If Fr Z is willing to forward on, have complete Propers (with optional Introit and Communion Verses), plus words in English, Latin and Spanish, and popular Spanish (some Mexican, some Tejana) songs appropriate for devotions after Mass (you could use them within Mass in the OF), all as pdfs.
I don’t know if there are any Latin propers, but the collect would be:
Deus, Pater misericordiárum, qui sub sanctíssimae Matris Fílii tui singulári patrocínio plebem tuam constituísti, tríbue cunctis, qui beátam Vírginem Guadalupénsem ínvocant, ut, alacrióri fide, populórum progressiónem in viis iustítiæ quáereant et pacis. Per Dóminum.
I’m guessing it has been a “feast” in Mexico for some time now. There is probably a local Proper designated for it. It seems like, besides contacting some one high up in the Mexican heirarchy, there should be some sort of list of variations on record there in Rome. Fr. Z?
Some years ago, the Church in England and Wales reintroduced the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham on Sept. 24. I believe they incorporated a historic Proper, which is now available for Patronal Feast Days throughout the Church.
Obiter dictum: In the number of pilgrims, Guadalupe is number one in the world, surpassing Lourdes and all others.
As far as the texts: I don’t know how useful this is, but it might be a start.

119. In certain parts of the world, especially mission lands, there are peoples who have their own musical traditions, and these play a great part in their religious and social life. For this reason due importance is to be attached to their music, and a suitable place is to be given to it, not only in forming their attitude toward religion, but also in adapting worship to their native genius, as indicated in Art. 39 and 40.
J, There are propers. In the EF it is a First Class feast in many dioceses, second in some, and third in the rest. December 12 is not to be a votive Mass anywhere in the US, but is proper.
Our 1962 Missal has the appendix for the “Foederatio Americae Semptrinonalis” (sp?) and it is the very first Mass. If anyone lacks that very useful appendix, the Baronius Missal of the FSSP has it (as well as evvery particular feast for the US).

It’s a solemnity in Mexico. The basilica’s website has a mine of information that may be very useful.

There’s a wealth of Mexican polyphony and serious art songs written for Our Lady of Guadelupe and other titles of the Virgin, in the New World and often by indigenous composers. So there’s no need for mariachi in church unless the priest and his parishioners really want it.

RB, that is a ridiculously unworthy comment, even meant in jest. The devotion of the people of Mexico, repeatedly impoverished financially and tortured spiritually, is one of the wonders of the world. Cloying as its representations can sometimes be, this manifestation is very much alive in their hearts and minds, and means more than you or I can imagine to a vast number of people who are poorer than you or I can possibly imagine. I don’t like the architecture either, but it fades away in the face of the spiritual reality that is the Guadalupe shrine experience (apparantly the traditional mass is being said there as well, on Mondays, I believe). I really cannot overstate my humbled admiration every time I visit the Basilica, the plaza of which, incidentally, is about to be doubled in size. I don’t mean to sound like a stick in the mud, but Guadalupe is nothing to joke about.
According to the June 22, 1962 decree for the USA calendar, December 12 is a III Class Feast.
Likewise, after the Council it was made a “Memorial”, i.e., still a III Class Feast.
However, since the JP II decree elevating it throughout the Americas to a “Feast”, an argument could be made that it should be celebrated as a II Class Feast throughout the USA.
In any case, there is a proper Mass and Office.

Sing “Las Mananitas.” (It’s not a mere “Happy Birthday” song. “Esta son las mananitas que cantaba el rey David….”)
There was a clip on You Tube of the celebration of Guadalupe Day last year at the new shrine. When the entire thousands-strong church joined in singing Las Mananitas, tears came to my eyes.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of the entire hemisphere of the Americas. She is greatly loved. If you want mariachis to play for her, you can probably get them for free. Might even have to fight off competing contenders for the honor.
(If you made a procession, you could let all the mariachi bands honor our Queen, marching in sequence. But you’d need more than 3 days to put the parade together.)

You missed the point. I wasn’t making fun of Our Lady of Guadalupe, but rather the disaster of liturgical enculturation and those, like Abp Piero Marini, who promoted it.
I have never been to the shrine of Guadalupe, but I have on several occasions been to Rue de Bac (cf Ste Catherine LaBoure’ and the Miraculous Medal), spent a few days at Lourdes (followed by a pilgrimage to Never, where St Bernadette’s body rests) and a week at Fatima.
And during my Roman years I probably attended mass at S Andrea delle Fratte (cf. the apparition to the Jew Alphonse Ratisbonne) at least 100 times.
Never should be Nevers.
BTW, St Bernadette died on Apr 16th, the birthday of BXVI.

In the Ordinary Form, there are proper texts for this feast (690A). I cannot find what you’re looking for, but perhaps choosing whatever you need from the Common of the Blessed Virgin Mary would work in a pinch.
my 1962 Hand Missal (just published by Baronius Press) has a special supplement for the diocese of the United States which has Our Lady of Guadalupe listed.
