Sides being chosen

Two German Cardinals have spoke up in defense of Pope Benedict against the criticisms from bishops in Germany over the lifting of the excommunications of the SSPX bishops.

First, Walter Card. Kasper spoke bluntly with Vatican Radio about the anti-Roman attitude in the criticisms and that the Pope is following the what the Church must do in pursuit of unity.  Attacks on the Pope in this matter have been attacks on the Church herself.

Also, Paul Josef Card. Cordes on kreutz.net has gone after Card. Lehmann and others for criticism of the Pope’s move:  „Daß den Papst ein geistlich krankes Glied am Leib Christi seit Jahren schmerzt, gilt im besten Fall als Alterssentimentalität“ – analysiert Kardinal Cordes.  !

Cdl. Kasper defending the Papacy and Holy Mother Church?

    Will wonders never cease.

    Back to praying…

Cdl. Kasper defending the Papacy and Holy Mother Church?

“Some of those who are now frontrunners of tradition, apparently outstanding leaders of tradition, some of them are going to fall to the back of the race while some unexpected horses are going to come up to the front of the race. And who knows who is going to be there at the finishing post?” sermon to the subdiaconate -2004 Bishop Richard Williamson.

“The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres…churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord….” Our Lady of Akita approved by Josef Cardinal Ratzinger 1988

I don’t think Catholics expect unanimity of opinion on prudential issues. However, it is refreshing to see certain Cardinals coming forth
and defending His Holiness in this present campaign of calumny. Tom

  4. Gregor says:

Fortunately, Card. Cordes published his article not on the awful kreuz.net, but in the very respectable German Catholic newspaper Die Tagespost (rather similar to The Wanderer, I suppose, but appearing three times a week).

  5. scipio says:

Gregor ist right re: Cardinal Cordes but a bit cautious on kreuz.net which is just filthy, really on the lunatic fringe. Not a source to cite, and not even one to read, unless you are in full spiritual balance. This site is a shame.

  6. Dan says:

God bless both of these princes of the Church.

  7. Dr. Eric says:

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

    Viva Il Papa!!!

  8. Thomas says:

Didn’t expect Cardinal Kasper to be named as one of the two, especially after his highly imprudent remarks earlier on the matter.

  9. Woody Jones says:

It’s good to see Cardinals Kasper and Cordes inside the wagon circle (I think the Boer word was, the kraal) while the Comanches are riding around on the outside.

  10. Irenaeus says:

Can anyone do the German for me? I can’t quite get the gist.

  11. Maynardus says:

Wunderbar! What could Der Heligenvater have on Herr Kasper der Freundlisch Kardinal?

(Please excuse comical, b-movie imitation-German dialect!)

  12. Raphaela says:

Irenaeus: “That the Pope has for years been feeling the pain of a spiritually ill member of the Body of Christ is at best considered to be the sentimentality of an old man.”

  13. D says:

Don’t forget that Cardinal Kaspar was one of the founders of Communio- the “conservative” side of the new theology, as opposed to concilium and Hans Kung’s side of the new theology. So this is not that surprising, when you look at the past.
