Happy Square Root Day!
Celebrate it now!
The next Square Root Day is 4/4/16
How will you observe this momentous occasion?
I may make a square pan of some sort of root vegetable concoction for supper.

“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”
- Fulton Sheen

A monthly subscription donation means I have steady income I can plan on. I put you my list of benefactors for whom I pray and for whom I often say Holy Mass.
In view of the rapidly changing challenges I now face, I would like to add more $10/month subscribers. Will you please help?

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

Wouldn’t 2/4/16 be an even better square root day?
hmmm …. post to my blog, send a few emails…
And maybe plant some sort of root vegetable in my garden when I get home in honor of the occasion? Unfortunately, all the vegetables I know have round, not square, roots…
Perhaps this explains the square-looking Eucharistic wafer displayed on Fr Finigan’s blog from the REConference out west.
Are we going to celebrate Pi day as well 3.14?
What about Sweet Potato pie? I’ve seen it made with a little bit of ginger in it (also a root vegetable). You might even mix in some mashed carrots – another root.
What will the Church be like in 12/12/2144..?
Tzard – Make sweet potato pie just like pumpkin pie with the same spices. It tastes exactly like pumpkin pie. My Missouri Gramma used to make it.
Happy square root day, since I’m a math nerd I love these kinds of days.
Nerd.
Hold on, there is someone named kettle on the phone for me.
Great idea! I have a vegetarian taro root cake I made in a square container. I’ll have to slice up and fry some pieces for dinner and see how it turned out.
WHA???! I’m just finding out about this now??? This only gives me ? ?360 ‘ 2 = ? 4 ? {± 40 people } where apetite = ? !
I will NOT have this be a repeat of the “Palendrome Day” party of 2002.
sooo… if I turned 50 on square root day…. how old am ? :)
please don’t base your answer on my typos
Not to be a pedantic curmudgeon, but aren’t 3/3/09 and 4/4/16 just multiplication days – like 3/6/09 will be an addition day? 2/4/16 will be an exponential day.
This is why I love this blog…all kinds of weird fun mixed with a whole lot of correctness (except political – thank goodness). Thanks for enlightening us in so many ways, Father.
Thanks, Gloria. I’ll try it tonight.
I greatly detest math, and it took me a while to figure out “Square Root Day”…
Carrot cake! That’ll work… right?
Richard: pedantic curmudgeon
Better perhaps than being a psilological doryphore.
I had that thought when I wrote date on a white board this morning!
No plans to celebrate tonight.
Enjoy your root vegetables, Father.
03/03/09 – hadn’t thought of it! I’m looking forward to 09/09/09 – that will be my fortieth wedding anniversary!
Hehe. I’ll have to remember to wish my fellow teachers a happy square root day at our staff meeting this afternoon.
I’d rather have a Riemann Hypothesis day …
All non-trivial zeros of the zeta function have real part one-half …
Yes,carrot cake! MMmmm!
It’s rather like Mole Day: Oct. 23 from 6:02 am to 6:02 pm.
I didn’t realize it was Natural Square root day!
I am more of a Pi Day man myself, only eleven more days!
3.1415926535897932384626… (if memory serves me correctly).
Truthfinder,
Have there been 10^23 Mole Days? :P
“… a square pan of some sort of root vegetable …”
LOL!
Brian,
my university lab instructors have made a point to us to celebrate the day, not of course with as much emphasis as Darwin Day, but you can’t win at everything. So a couple of us did celebrate Mole Day.
I celebrated square root day celebrating my wife’s 40th birthday. She was born on an interesting mathematical day, sort of square “rootish” 3/3/69.
What happened to the girl who flirted with the Maths professor?
She got a square root and multiplied.
In engineering circles, pi are square. At Baker’s Square, pie are round.
